Not that I was ever a fan of Pulse, when I did tune in the morning show (when i was driving a car that had a radio that went to 87.7) I thought that the morning show sounded so out of place. No offense to Star and Buckwild, but if you're trying to build a dance station, people want to hear the music. Not 40 minutes of an hour devoted to talk. I'm giving the station another 2 months before more staff leave due to lack of funds.
Playing "devil's advocate" here, there's STILL something to be said about a morning show. As long as you're a 18-34 driven station, you want to have something in there that just grabs you in the morning somehow and backhandedly keep you informed of the goings on. Which is why Z-100 and Hot 97 will have their morning show, and a Lite-FM wouldn't.
It took me a bit of getting used to at first with Star & Buc Wild because of their years on hip-hop stations. I was wondering to myself whether or not their style would "translate" over to a dance music crowd. Not only that it did, but witnessing the parties at Plumm it also got crowds that would have traditionally been on the hip-hop tip actually
EMBRACING dance music! So in that sense, that audience was looking all over the place for 87.7. I also think that we've been so accustomed to morning shows in general that for a guy to talk more than play music was just considered normal.
Regarding Pulse's situation.....I'm going to continue to support them. When the time comes that the party is "over", then I'm going to do what I do and fight for another radio station to do this.
