Star continues music shift.

Starting around Thursday Star began adding some top 40 recurrents from BoB, Usher,Rihanna Finger11 and such. They also started adding 90s tracks they have pretty much ignored in the past from Blind Mellon, Nirvana, Jennifer Lopez, Shaggy, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.. While they are in moderation at this point, this is no doubt a full movement to seperate themselves from JOY and take the station more full tilt HOT AC.. Sue Oneill has really brought the station back from the awfull mix they were playing only a few months back..

Star had their own PD until recently. Sue O'Neill took over (again) when Brian Demay was cut loose. The big problem is that Kiss has an AC morning show that won't move to their AC station. Star's biggest competition is in their own building.

She is the one who has actually brought ratings success to both stations at different points in time... And she is moving Star in the same direction as almost all Hot AC stations are doing across the nation!! As for Star sounding exsactly like Kiss thats Bull.. if you actually listened to either station, as I do, for a period of time you can hear the difference.. She isnt the one who decreased the current and recurrent spins and upped all the overplayed 70s and 80s party hits.. all of that happend after she stepped down from Star to go back to Kiss.. Either way it sounds a hell of alot better then JOY!! and a hell of alot better then it did a few months back.. NOW BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP HER LITTLE MAN! LOL
PS Happy dyngus day all you ding bats... ;D

Zip up your fly...your dYngus is hanging out...she stepped down? Wow you just don't get it...lol...go drink some of that polish vodka and tell yourself you know everything about radio...you'll believe yourself after about 10 shots...

Every decade or so Mainstream Top 40 and AC formats go thru a period where they share a lot of music. In 1970, 1980 and 1991...it was Top 40 softening their sound...this time however AC and Top 40 just seem to be converging at 120 BPM. When you consider Top 40's current appeal as a 25-54 female format, they're all chasing the same audience. And it's happening nationwide...we have a HAC where I live that's recently turned up the music mix - and the personality - to great success...yet not at the expense of the Top 40 competition.

It will be VERY interesting to see how much traction Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" gains at Mainstream Top 40...she's got the #1 album and a lot of buzz and I see no reason why it shouldn't be a stone cold smash there. But if Top 40 goes "meh", it may be a differentiator that HAC/Adult Top 40/AC formats can play to their advantage.

Great. Soon this station can restore the days of saying "The mega stars are on the mega station..." :D

Geez, since Janet refuses to move to Star, why not just shift Star to CHR, and let Kiss continue their evolution to Hot/AC? Roger's got to be approaching retirement age. Rob Lucas would be fine for mid-days. You'd need a hot CHR morning show, though. Or maybe move Seacrest over to "The New Star" CHR, and put Lucas on in afternoons. BTW, the more I think about it, the less I'm kidding.
