Star going to La Mega or La Kalle???

By: David Hinckley

New York Daily News

DJ Star

Once and future radio personality DJ Star says he'd like the world to have a better idea of who he is and isn't.
For several years, he was one of the most successful and controversial personalities on hip-hop radio. Then last year he became the "shock jock" fired from WWPR and arrested after graphic on-air remarks about the young child of rival host DJ Envy on WQHT.

Truth is, he says, he's not a hip-hop guy and he's not a shock jock. "I'm an entertainer," he says. As for those remarks, which he says were "taken out of context," they were "exactly the kind of thing Clear Channel knew I had always done and in fact hired me to do."

He has filed several lawsuits, including one against Clear Channel, and he says that's one reason he isn't back on the radio yet.

I understand that but why would he mention hispanic radio?? And with the departure of Luis Jimenez from WSKQ, seems like a hint.

Dreaming?

WSKQ has already debuted its new morning show with Juan Carlos (WPAT) and Frankie Jay (WXYX).

What if they add Star to the mix as the english speaking jock, make it a bilingual type morning show. Everyone could listen... keep WSKQ number one in the morning in NYC.

Or he could just be going to WFNY Free 92.3...

Star on Free FM is a slam dunk, if only he doesn't have problems with the sponsors or other rap radio stations.

in fact, Star could be the next Stern, his show has that much crossover appeal.

Star is NOT going to La Kalle, Luis Jimenez and Moonshadow are going to take the morning show slot in 2008. They would not hire 2 powerhouses for their morning show, especially since as was said before, Star has no significant Hispanic following.

Star had about 0% Hispanic following... he would make no sense on a Spanish language station.

David as usual you're trying to speak in absolutes. There are plenty of hispanics in NYC who listened to Star on POWER, if you think that audience was 100% african american you are completely without a clue. Besides who says that all they want is a "hispanic audience"?. Numbers are numbers just like WQHT would not ahve gotten to the point where they are 12+ if only african americans were listening, plenty of whites are listening as well. As for Star at the spanglish station, I doubt it's happening but wherever Star goes he'll pull listeners, especially now that he's been thrust into the public eye with the arrest etc.

it's a no brainer

Here are the facts. In Winter, 2006, the last full book before Star was fired, in Hispanic 12+, Star had less than 1/12th the cume share of WSKQ, the leader, and was below stations like WLTW. In Spanish dominant Hispanic listening, Star barely had a presence, getting a cume share that is less than 1/20th of that of WSKQ.

Both WCAA (which will have the Luis Jimenez show in 11 months) and WSKQ appeal to Spanish dominant Hispanics and would have no interest in general market listeners.

SBS has no English stations, and the ones Univision has are Hispanic targeted.

Isn't Star Bound to a no compete clause? I know he had one from HOT97 that's why he had to wait to get back in to NY on WWPR

I still think his comeback wont be on terrestrial radio. the picture on his website points to outerspace.

I think if you get fired your no compete can be wiggled out of if you have any sort of good agent or Lawyer. Perhaps at the time of the Hot firing he wasnt well repped because again if you're fired you should be able to work as soon as you can as opposed to quitting for another gig.

Do you really think, after what he did to two licensees, that any station owner is going to jeopardize thier licence by putting such a loose cannon on the air. Fat chance.

Did Star Get Fired from HOT? I thought that he walked off the job due a Conflict with Bary Mayo and Tracey(the Ice Queen)

Let's remember why this guy was fired. He threatened to sexually assualt a four year old girl and offered his audience $500 for "the first caller" to tell him where the child goes to school.

This person has the mind and judgement of a bad child, he should not be anywhere near a live mic.

If you want to advance the public's declining opinion of radio, just hire trash like "star".

The last gig Juan Carlos had was on WMGE Orlando.
