Star gone

Star 107.5 in Barrie Ontario is now Cool Fm.
Google the words "Cool 107.5" and Star 107.5 will pop up. Their website, as of this posting, still says Star though.
I believe they've gotten heavier, but I'm not sure, because in my neck of the woods, who knows what I'm picking up on 107.5 theese days.
Anything from Buffalo's Lake (somehow, even thoough tbat's 107.7) to an AM repeater out of Oshawa Ontario.

This link may be the answer to your question. Think of it what you will.

According to a press release, Central Ontario Broadcasting (the company that owns the station) recently conducted market research to increase ratings.

Amongst their findings:
- Listeners enjoyed the former STAR format
- Broadcast signal strength was poor in key listener areas

As a result, they have apparently moved their transmitter to the top of the Barrie CKVR / A-Channel tower with an effective radiated power increase to 50,000W.

Similarly, the format will not change, but rather, a name change was determined to be needed to correspond with a new ambitious advertising campaign to promote the station.

Re: Star gone--Chris Byrnes

It sounds edgier to me these days. Chris Byrnes consults this station, so I wonder if he'll take some of his ideas from Kool in Kitchener (which he also consults) and apply them to Barrie...

Listeners enjoy the format??? What listeners??? They have 5.

And how many would they have if they went rock...I mean the kind of rock that gets the kids to grow up to love sister station Rock 95 down the road?

The radio business is funny sometimes.
______________

But it's still a business. New Rock would get a few more listeners than KOOL, but it would make far less money.

I think also there may still be the concern that the listener base of a new rock format out that way, if not done right, may also draw too many listeners that are too young.
______________
