Star is officially TOP 40

Based on what?

Looking at their playlist they are still heavily dayparted and not current focused. For example the 1pm hour yesterday had four currents, four recurrents, and six golds. Not very Top 40 like. The 8pm hour had eight currents, three recurrents and three golds.

Additionally, their heavies are being played 47-50 spins a week, which is half of a typical Top 40 station.

Their playlist only has 20 currents. Once you get past that, you see a lot of 20 year old gold. This is Hot AC.

The lower spin counts were because of a Throwback weekend over Memorial Day. Their current spin-count will be higher.

At least Mediabase agrees, as it has WBZZ on the Top 40 panel. Not sure how long they've been there though.
But you're right, at least during the sample hour I see, it's not super-current heavy at all.
