Star Midday Changes

Star 102 WDOK has a new midday host as I heard her today.

Jill Bucco has taken over the slot from Liz Campbell, who has left and had been hosting Middays on 102 for the past few years.

The rest of Star's lineup remains unchanged.

Rearranging the proverbial deck chairs. What DO the "personalities" on Star 102 contribute, exactly? 106.5 gets along fine without them, and in my opinion, Star sounds better when it's got no "deejays". Hearing some pre-recorded voice talking about fluff is just a cue that commercials are starting and it's time to punch the seek button over to something else.

Giving the name of the song and artist would be a good service element, particularly on new songs.

Why? "Insultants" say there's no need to do that. I have a feeling they think most people have RDS on their systems that give you the name and artist and if they don't you can simply go their website and look at their playlist.
I can go back to the late 70s when the station I was at was told by the 'insultants" to stop front/back announcing artists/songs when we had listeners asking us to do the exact opposite of what the "insultant" suggested since we played some newer artists and played multiple songs off an album instead of just the current hit......which brings to mind Supertramp's "Breakfast In America". I think we tossed 5 songs off that album into our rotation and, if I remember correctly, at least 4 were eventually released as singles.

They could always bring back the robot lady that originated with Mix 1065 to back announce every song.
That was unnecessary, even for 2012 with RDS, HD Radio and their website to tell you the name of the song and artist. Probably would have been useful in the 90s' or early 2000s during automated hours with no DJ on duty, but not within the last 15 years.

It was clear that the "tag" was embedded in the music as it became very predicable when the song/artist id would play at the end, that is, after hearing the same songs several times. At first it was a bit sloppy, sometimes playing over the lead vocals. Then it got polished, sometimes waiting for the song to end completely before announcing.

The strangest thing was always hearing a talk break coming out of one of those tags.
