Star to go Spanish...

The interviewing has already begun so I read on another thread? You do hear spanish on some of thier new promos as well. Word in the building (from friends working there) is sooner than later. Any other info?

With all the greatest respect intended, for Senor Eduardo, I have to ask, porque (why)?
Why do we need another spanish frequency? What would "La Nueva Estrella" (The New Star) do that is not being done now among spanish language stations?

then will would star Listeners go KBig FM, KIIS FM or Jack FM

I Also Notice KIIS FM Played This Morning Killers "When You Were young " During Non Nationwide shows,Or Mix Shows

I think the speculation is pretty groundless right now. Note that the PD dumped the morning show, and when format shifts are in the works the PD is the first to get axed, not individual shows one by one... they all go at the same time.

As to Spanish, that is even more speculative. Clear does not have a format that holds up to competition, and thier formula in the Southwest and Texas has been to pipe in La Preciosa, a networked offering now on 21 or 22 stations, vua satellite, from Salinas. This format gets pretty mashed when up against a direct competitor, such as in Las vegas, Dallas, Fresno, San Diego or San Francisco... so they would have to come up with something else.

To answer the question, there are other formats besides the ones being done in LA, but all are pretty niche and not what Clear would want. Going up against established stations in Spanish is not something Clear has done right even once, so this would be a big gamble on thier part with a very big station.

The fact is, the only sector of LA radio with billings growth is Spanish language, so they may be looking for the long run (another thing they are not known for).

yeah yeah weasnt it "DEFINATE" that Star was going country two months ago too?.

I say that they should be programmed by Saul Levine so they can try the format flavor of the month approach!
;D

if star flips they would be leaving L.A. without anything in the area of Modern AC. 98.7 carries songs that no other station touches now and it sure is nice having a choice between Jack's rock leaning, KBIG's rhythmic stuff, KIIS' rhythmic top 40 and star 98.7(as if there weren't enough spanish stations here already)

If Star does flip (which I don't think will happen) then perhaps Jack FM would add some Modern AC titles that Star "played".

I don't it would flip because it's a high biller.

Gawd I WISH WE HAD BETTER RULES ON THIS.
It's not so much that its not a confirmable claim, as it is that he wrote "Star to go Spanish," like he had some kind of link to a news story. Nope, no such luck, just somebody posting a hunch.

GAWD THAT ANNOYS ME!

Maybe Star should go both Country and Spanish!!! Play English Country Music with Spanish speaking on-air personalities. That'll really screw with the listeners!!!!

I heard that Radio One had 2nd thoughts about KRBV's lineup and is now negotiating with John London and the House Party on a return to LA, they'll place him from 5:30-10am. Shirley Hayes moves to Night Moods, Cliff teams up with John, and Myke Julius is out. 10a-12p weekdays will now be all music with no jock just like Hot. :D
