"Star Trek" to TV Land, November 2006!

That's good news, as I would hate to actually unlock my DTV receiver to view it on G4TV - there's a channel that went from tch to dreck! I use to be good back when it was CNET but went downhill, now resorting to the Man Show and stupid adult cartoons after midnight.I hope TV Land picks up some other good series to augment the fall season. Personally, I'd love to see the return of the Jack Webb trio - Adam-12, Dragnet and Emergency!

I have just read that "Star Trek" 1966-1969 is coming to TV Land in November. ;D
I would say that TV Land getting Star Trek is a good move since Spike is carrying Star Trek:The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and both TV Land and Spike are both owned by Viacom.I have a question about a couple of other shows in the Star Trek series,Star Trek:Voyager with Kate Mulgrew and Star Trek:Enterprise. Why hasn't Spike carried reruns of these shows? Also when did Sci-Fi end their rights to air Star Trek?

Only a guess, but probably around the time that G4tv started airing Star Trek in their lineup. I would assume there's some sort of agreement to keep from having a show end up on a multitude of cable outlets at the same time, right?

Sci-Fi's Star Trek:TOS contract ended long before it began airing on G4. Sometime in 2003 was the last time I remember seeing it on Sci-Fi (and then it was regulated to a one-time showing at 7:00am or something on Saturday mornings).

I wonder if this means that the original "Star Trek" series will also return to broadcast syndication? Apparently, the Sci Fi Channel paid Paramount some extra bucks to get full exclusivity for "Trek" when they ran it...but I notice that TV Land doesn't generally bother to pay for exclusivity. A number of the series that run on TV Land are also in broadcast syndication.

I have read that Star Trek can be on TV Land fron 8pm-8am, and G4 will be able to air it from 8am-8pm. Must be a shared deal..I guess this also means that Little House on the Prairie will be airing at a bad timeslot, because I also understand that Hallmark can show it from 7am-7pm and TV Land 7pm-7am. They'll probably air it in the middle of the night.

I seriously doubt we'll be seeing any of the Star Trek series, sans Enterprise, return to broadcast syndication anytime soon.....TNG and DS9 airs ad nauseum on Spike (with TNG also on G4), Voyager is coming to Spike later this year, and now TOS is being on TV Land this year. From what I recall, when the announcement that Spike had picked up TNG reruns, they disappeared from local stations and DS9 and Voyager have also vanished from local stations. (KTXH-20 Houston had carried Voyager in an 11:30 weekday timeslot until September 2003 when they were dropped)Strangely this is NOT TV Land's first brush with Trek.....they carried repeats of the 1973-75 animated Trek on Saturday mornings for a while, and last year aired two episodes of TOS as part of their "Legends" segment. (They also aired a rare official syndicated print of the 1950's Dragnet as part of this block.)

Back in the fall of 2004, I had the opportunity to spend a couple hours with a sales rep from what was then Paramount Domestic Television. There are several factors that go into determining whether or not a show will be available in broadcast syndication:1. If the cable network carrying the show is willing to pony up enough extra money to exceed what could be made from broadcast syndication, the cable network can have full exclusivity. This is what the Sci Fi Channel did when they picked up TOS. Whether TV Land will be willing to pay for exclusivity is questionable, since they don't seem to on much of anything else they run. A fairly high percentage of their schedule is shows that appear on broadcast television in at least a handful of markets.2. If the show in question is being "rested" because they perceive that the show is burned out.3. And the obvious reason: If they think that they can sell it to enough stations to be worth bothering with.Personally, I think that pairing the original series with "Enterprise" in weekend syndication would be a smart move -- both shows together might well be more successful than either by itself. Alas, I doubt that the folks at CBS/Paramount or whatever they are now called would see it the same way.
