Didn't think I would ever see MTV airing a "Star Wars" movie but they did tonight. The same network that airs those dating shows like "Next" would air "Star Wars". I could see the movie on Spike or even TV Land but not MTV.

Star Wars on MTV

I watched a PR movie in a Communication class one time that followed MTV programming researchers around, and it basically showed them going and interviewing random kids to ask them what their lives are like. How in the world could they come to think that any young person would want to watch that kind of crap? It's basically Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous for kids. Lame.
When MTV originally aired back in the 80s it had creative videos plus excellent VJ’s.
This new MTV is a disaster.
As for Star Wars:
During a commercial break Monday there was a fan, with Star Wars tattoos on one of his arms, gushing all over George Lucas like Lucas was some deity. :
It's a friggin movie for God sakes!
A great movie, but still a movie.
If people's lives are going to be changed because some guy in a black cape and mask, or cute robots, those people need to seriously seek professional help.
This new MTV is a disaster.

Wow...I didn't know teenage girls were into "Star Wars". They must think Luke Skywalker is so dreamy!
Can't really say this was "off the rails" since the whole network is "off the rails", and has had no clear direction in years. I wonder what was behind this decision to mix in "Star Wars" to a network currently going after teenage girls.

Way back in the 80's I seem to remember watching an interview on some TV show with the late Michael Landon ( he was still doing Little House at the time ) where he claimed that he would actually beat his kids if he would catch them watching MTV and anything related to Star Wars. Now was he joking or not , that I don't know but if he wasn't and considering that Landon was good friends at the time with Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper and Harrison Ford ( all of whom were connected to either MTV or Star Wars ) I bet that would made for some very interesting conversations perhaps like..
"..hey MJ..how are you my friend? Hope you are doing well !! By the way I caught my kids watching your Rock With You video last night on MTV. I took my belt off and I beat their asses because they were watching your trash !! So when can we visit Neverland?.."

Speaking of VH-1, do they still show those "Behind The Music" specials? They were pretty good, but I haven't seen any on there in a long time.
I have said this before maybe the M in MTV stands for movies instead of music. Also Viacom does program three of their channels alright. Those three being Nickeloden, The N, and Noggin. All stay on book with what they are surpose to show on their network.
