If Star is moving toward a CHR sound, maybe they should change from Star100.7 to Z100. They have a "Z" and Z100 sounds sooo CHR. There is another Z100 somewhere that is a really big CHR. A new name might help them sound fresh and like a winner and that counts in this format maybe more than some others. They could call the AM drive show the "Z Morning Zoo".

I've tried listening to this. I can't believe how bad the fit is. It's like they're playing the songs that are at the furthest ends of the spectrum of each station. My brain is blanking on titles right now, but all I can say is I'm sure there are soccer moms AND B94 fans having near violent reactions to some of them.

The mix of music is not going to work. I like the idea of STAR going completely CHR/Pop and changing the name to AMP 100.7. Z100 is NYC is the No. 1 Pop station in the country and it's owned by Clear Channel. I like the name Z100.7, but would CBS use the Clear Channel name?

CBS uses "mix" in Baltimore. CC uses "mix" in Tampa and Cox uses "mix" in Richmond. I don't see why CBS can't use 'Z" in Pittsburgh.

No, it's not the same frequency, but still "Z" would be a new branding . There is a Z104.5 in Norfolk and I'm sure lots of others. Whether it is Z or Now or AMP, they need to start fresh (not Fresh) and build something new. They need to be live 24/7 from Pittsburgh and create a more local sound than "KISS".

Then that's exactly why they shouldn't use it - because so many other cities do. "The Point" is probably the most local sounding thing they could do with their call letters - they just need to update the graphics, soundbites etc. Although that's hardly a unique name either.

The fact is, this station has been "imageless" and generic for so long, it's going to take MAJOR surgery to get people to refer to it as anything but 100.7. Cluster***k 100 probably wouldn't work, huh?

They should just blow up Star entirely and start with fresh (not new/young/inexperienced) jocks. Just people different than the worn out Scott Alexanders of the world.

Despite the apparently middling 12+ ratings, Star does well in its demo and is a profitable station. I don't see them
renaming the station unless the current merger with B-94 really screws things up.

C.

The days of "anything 100" are over. Stations now have to pretty much use their specific frequency of .whatever. Why not just go back to "The Point?" To be honest, it kind of sounds right now like WOMPFM did before it died. Same type of slogans and everything. I kind of like it.

STAR sounds like I put my iTunes Library on shuffle - no I take that back my iTunes Library sticks to somewhat the same genre in shuffle unless you skip a song.

The only people I see enjoying STAR are the Cougars - Moms/Women of Mom-age that want to seem hip by listening to Guetta and Ke$ha but really enjoy Buble and Train.

Z100.7 The Cougar?[insert roar sfx] I would rep that bumper sticker.

What irritates me is the fact that they run their little promos saying, "If you loved B94, you'll love this station." Guess what...YOU AREN'T PLAYING HALF THE SONGS B94 played. I don't like the station...I always flipped between B94 and KISS. Anyone else who liked what B94 was playing is going to see it on 96.1 KISS and stay there.

I hate to completely jump the gun, but I would venture to say they screwed up STAR which was apparently doing well and for sure beyond jacked up 93.7. I know I can't speak for all B94 listeners, but I haven't "switched" to STAR...now I just leave it on KISS. I know some people who are riding out listening to what's left of B94 and when that's gone will mostly just keep on it KISS.

So bravo 96.1...by just keeping a solid format throughout the years, you have succeeded!

I will not be making the switch to STAR either. I learn from my mistakes. . . I tried listening to STAR in 2004-05 when B94 first disappeared. It was one of the most horrific radio-listening experiences of my life. LOL! In 05 I switched to KISS and was very happy again. I quickly got used to the sped up songs and the Morning Show was pretty entertaining (once you get used to their style of humor). I'm a CHR fan, I want to hear the current hits only. With WAMO & B both gone, it's a shame we only have one youth-oriented station left in this city.

In order for me to listen to 100.7, then need to change the format completely to CHR, ditch the older DJs (JR belongs on 3WS or 99.7), and of course change the name. But I don't see this happening. If this new mix of music doesn't work, I see them quickly ditching the new music and bringing back Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, and Def Leppard. ::)

Seems like the people on the Atlanta board are constantly complaining that Atlanta has no CHR. They state that STAR 94 and Q100 are CHR/AC hybrids and that nothing changes. Maybe this is a viable format?

My guess from your screen name is that, while you may be between 18-34, you are not female. If that's correct, you are not the target audience.

They probably knew that a fair number of listeners split time between Star and the B. If they can keep most of Star's audience and bring some B listeners over, or just hold onto the ones that used to split time with the B, the numbers should go up, and they get a whole new demo with 93.7.

The problem is, I think some of the songs they're playing are going to be deemed as "not acceptable" by the soccer moms who don't want to deal with little Mackenzie and Jacob wanting to know what a "disco stick" is and why that nice lady wants to ride on it. It's easier for them to switch to 3WS, Q or WSSH.

This might have worked 20 years ago but a lot of top 40 is so much rawer now.

Is Pittsburgh still mostly seniors? I know for a while the city was having trouble keeping "young talent" in town once they graduated high school/college. I know that Monroeville/Cranberry/South Hills are mostly old fogies. Also the older generation is more inclined to listen to the radio then plug in a MP3 player or get Satellite radio. I'm sure station managers and advertisers know that.

I co-sign on that one.
