I was listening this morning and they played We Found Love by Rihanna. Are they going in a more top 40 mainstream direction or is this just something with the Hot AC format? Sure they've played Rihanna before but this song seems quite upbeat for Hot AC. Other songs that have surprised me over the year or so I've been listening are David Guetta - Without You, Usher - DJ Got Us Falling In Love, Taio Cruz - Dynamite, Nelly - Just A Dream, Enrique Eglacius - I Like IT, and Gym Class Heros - Stereo Hearts. The other question I have is that they tested Sound of Sunshine by Michael Frantey and Spearhead as a music test and it seems as if people liked it, so any idea why a station won't play a song listeners like? I've heard this song only 2 other times since the test from about a year ago.
 
Taio Cruz Dynamite has creeped into mainstream AC nowadays. It's a huge hit on Hot AC.

Dynamite has been a hit on Hot AC for a long while now. Heck, most of 'em rotate like its still current (irritating). A few have played Just a Dream. It sounds good on a Hot AC. I Like It and Stereo Hearts are Hot AC hits as well at the moment. And if they don't play "Sound of Sunshine", its probably because they read market research from other areas and the hit didn't gain much traction, therefore, Star doesn't play it.
