Star104???

So...from Magic104 (96.5TICFm rip-off) , to Star104(WRCH rip-off), to Radio104 (WCCC rip-off), to Power104, (93.7 rip-off), now to FM104 (An obvious KISS/KC101 rip-off)??? Does ANYBODY see a pattern?

Thomas, the old Magic 104 was a lot more like today's Lite 100.5, an adult contemporary station. 96.5-TIC is considered a Hot AC station. I don't think Star 104.1 worked in the early 90s because you already had Lite 100.5 and The New Mix 93.7 as cut-throat competition. Radio 104 ripping off WCCC isn't entirely accurate, but Power 104 ripping off CBS-owned Hot 93.7? Yes sir!

So let me see if I have the commercial FM stations correct in the Hartford/New Britain/Middletown market:

92.5 Country [Clear Channel]
93.7 Urban/Hip-Hop [CBS Radio]
95.7 CHR/Top 40 [Clear Channel]
96.5 Hot AC, a.k.a. Adult Top 40 [CBS Radio]
100.5 Adult Contemporary [CBS Radio]
102.9 Classic Hits (Oldies?) [Buckley Broadcasting]
104.1 Modern Rock [Clear Channel]
105.9 Rock leaning AC [Clear Channel]
106.9 Active Rock [Marlin Broadcasting]

Radio 104 was not a rip-off of WCCC. They never played Motley Crue 12 times an hour or had an annoying guy in a Hawaiian t-shirt!
And, HOW does FM104 rip-off Kiss and KC??

>guy in a Hawaiian t-shirt!

I like and wear Hawaiian t-shirt. :)

Seriouly - KML-224 is correct when he said Star 104.1 was a lot like Mix 93.7 and Lite 100.5. The other two stations were established and had done a lot of advertising. Mix switched to all 70s after its parent company, ARS, bought Lite to create Connecticut's first FM duopoly. Star became Radio 104 and WPOP switched from news to sports after Merv Griffin sold the combo.

Speaking of All-70's at 'ZMX, to this day, I still have a WZMX T-shirt from their days as a '70's station. Now there's a collectors item. I remember the image voice guy there who also did the imaging for NESN.
