STARDUST

reading all the posts about easy listening stations brought back this format to this old timer! probably the best example of this format was Stardust 1350 WOYK. I still remember Doc Daugherty spinning the old Glenn Miller songs and other 40's hits. does any else recall any "stardust" stations?

Stardust did fairly well back in the mid to late 1980s on WOYK.
The station did have a loyal audience and was able to tie together
big band dances at the York Fairgrounds, even brought in personalities
like Joe Lacina from the Network to host the events.
Back at that time WOYK's main revenue source was Orioles Baseball, during
that era most businesses in town would by Orioles because it was huge
the audience was there the and station got numbers with it. WOYK lost the contract
with the Orioles right at the time Harry Shriver and Baltimore Radio show was selling
the station. As a result of losing the O's at that time the stations revenue took
a nose dive because that is where most of the billing was coming from. The advertisers
wouldn't buy the Stardust format because the demos of the format were 65+
That is what prompted the format to first change to Oldies but Goodies, then Country
and now Sports. The Stardust format was a good format it was just a difficult sell
in the market. The personalities were top notch and it was a well liked format among
the elder generation of listeners.

Down here in Reading, PA, we had a "Stardust" format on WRAW-AM 1340 which ran from 1992 thru either 1998 or 1999. Joe Lacina and Eddie Hubbard were very entertaining to listen to and I really liked the format.
