Starfest?

Is this show selling well? With 3 completely different headline type acts and a ton of no-name bands is this really a draw for an all day festival? Maybe a big walk up crowd since it's at Atlantic Station - but has anyone heard anything?

I think I heard Nudge At Night on the radio saying you gotta get your tickets now and you've just gotta be there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He sounded real excited about the show!!!!

I've also heard that the Locals stage is going to be free, placed in the center of Atlantic Station by Strip and Rosa Mexicana. If this is the case, friends of the local bands that bought tickets to see their friends play are going to be quite angry. Of course, Star 94 is not advertising the Local stage to be free.

Please note, this is not confirmed. Just something I heard from one of the local bands playing.

This has the makings of one of the most underwhelming festivals Atlanta has seen in some years..... it's gonna rank right down there with Kwanzaa 2005. Radio One outdrew it with Birthday Bash. If the Star promotions department pulls this one out, I will up my estimate of Red from Very Good to Phenominal.

Anyone have any information on how many tickets ended up being sold for Starfest? It was quite a poor showing in my opinion, and when Train was coming on to headline, Star 94 was letting everyone in the gates.

On the other hand, the locals only stage, I thought, had great talent. The location of the stage led to quite a lot of random foot traffic which is great for the bands.

I'm sure the lack of *big* headliners along with a $35 price tag led many people to not attend.

I was there for the Pink portion at 7 p.m. I'd say maybe 2,000 people were there overall in a space that could easily fit 5,000. I can't imagine anyone could say this was a success. The acts simply weren't big enough to justify a festival setting at the prices they were asking ($35 in advance, $50 at the door).

Star actually tried to compare this to Music Midtown - 2,000 people!!??

Can you feel the tide turning? Q100 had 2,000 people at the Beach Party and the only bands there were there only as background music.

It's a real shame - the once mighty STAR is falling.

I don't know about Star 94 falling.. I just think they were a little over zealous regarding StarFest. Granted they promoted like crazy, but the combination of lack of headliners and high ticket prices led people to not attend. This is the first time I can remember Star putting on an event like this, except for On The Bricks (which were free and $3 one year). They'll learn.

I have to wait to hear Nudge's spin on it. I'm sure he will tell me on the air that it was a GREAT show !!!!!!

Starfest - name of a failed musical festival that was put on by radio station WSTR, Atlanta in 2006.

Starfest - The name they gave the United Cerebral Palsy Telethon that aired locally on WSB channel 2(ie ... 'Starfest 95') in the final years of the telethon before it was canceled.

Only Star didn't put on that event, they were just the radio sponsor. Mad Booking produced the event, which included alot more talent buying power, and the support of large corporate sponsors.

Marcie Allen Cardwell booked the acts for Starfest but she's no longer with MAD Booking, which produced On The Bricks from 2001-04. She was ousted from MAD Booking at some point. I'm not even sure if MAD Booking exists anymore. She's under her own booking agency now, MAC Presents out of Nashville.
