Starguide Receiver stuff

Almost all have left the format, but I've heard (can't remeber where, but some official source) that the end of the starguide format is scheduled for sometime in June. I have two starguides left in the racks, both for shows that have other sources. I keep them there for the rare special occasion. 4 more in the back room, some of which have scrificed parts to keep the others working.

The Cincinnati Reds are starting on one of my contract stations on March 31...just got the DB9 and DB15 connectors wired today. Someone (either Clear Channel or the Reds) just sent them a Starguide III and Clear Channel Satellite just went over the closures with me earlier this week. So apparently the Reds are still being distributed via SG III.

Come to think of it, another one of my stations has an SG III or two in the rack & still in active service. Perhaps reports of the SG III's extinction have been exaggerated?

I know that ABC News is still being fed on both Starguide and XDS. We do not have the Starguides in the rack any longer.

Maybe I'll just get rid of the II stuff, and leave the III stuff on the shelf a little longer. I mean we've got like 12 of these boxes sitting around, now doing nothing since we just recently moved most of the programming over to the XDS box. Some of course are parts out. I'm betting if we were starting some new programming, and didn't have a receiver to put it on the air with, I don't doubt the supplier would send us a receiver to get it on the air with anways.

just had to put a SGIII back in service for a wacko talk service using CC. Chiefs Radio Network (also thru CC) was still on SGIII last season. Have a couple of receivers with bad audio outputs...I can fix them myself (surface-mount chips don't scare me ;D)but aren't going to bother at this time. I'd still hang onto the III's a little while longer.

Last I'd heard from NSN/Clear Channel Satellite is that they had no plans to migrate away from SGIII for their third-party hosting (leasing) applications.

Considering the cost (money and man hours) for a provider to refit with a new system like Wegener, XDS, or Max, I don't see Clear Channel as a company moving too fast to do so. They're trying to cut budgets, not implement huge projects with no immediate ROI.

Yup. Lots of sports programming on CCSS Starguide.
