Start year for "The All Night Satellite"?

The NYRMB History board is bouncing around some early all-night shows. Bob Lewis, in NYC, had "The All Night Satellite," and I'm wondering when WARM's dj first started using that show name. Anyone help? I was wondering who copied from whom.

a guy named Gill David also used that term, "all night satallite" on Susquhannas WSBA in york in the 60s. he actually was called "the mighty might...the all night satallite". maby Susquhanna "borrowed" it from the NYC jock and used it on all there stations at that time?

As far back as 1961, (when the instrumental song called "Telstar" was on the charts), Dick DiAndrea of Altoona's WFBG ws using the show name.

Though Dick's show ran from 7 pm 'til midnight, he
called it the "All Nite Satellite". He took the town by storm with Altoona's first rock 'n roll radio show. WFBG was owned by Triangle Stations (of WFIL fame) and they were still playing "standards" and
you name it last time I heard the station in 1963.

Anybody who used the "All Nite Satellite" name on WSBA might have gotten it from Al Wolfe, who came there after a stint at WFBG with DiAndrea in Altoona. Dick DiAndrea is still at WFBG (now as News Director). Talk about a survivor in his hometown. And he still does morning movie and entertainment review from the same studio where he did his legendary "Altoona Bandstand" show on WFBG-TV (now WTAJ). The guy's a scream! For years he also ran an advertising agency..which he SOLD to his SON. Yeh, he also worked for WALY-FM and one other station along the way, before returning to Big 1290 WFBG..with whom has enduring fame has been associated all-along.
"All Nite Satellite", indeed.

Lenny Woloson began using "The All Night Satellite" in 1959. Later in 1961 I took over the all night show at WARM and Lenny moved to the 9 to midnight slot with "The Len Woloson show". In fact while Lenny was doing all night... it was "Len Woloson, Your All Night Satellite". Lenny died at age 79 on March 22, 2009.
When Len moved to 9 to midnight.."All Night Satellite" was not used again on WARM

Hi Sam...Yep..Jim Ward was GM at WBAX when I was at Mutual. I remember you being there. I called him before I went on the network. He was mad at me when I left WBAX in 1960 and said I'd never make it in the business if I left him. He said he could teach me everything about the radio business. What he really ment was "I'll never find anyone else who will settle for 30 dollars a week. We still remained friends...lol

I didn't meet Len until he came to Las Vegas. Whatever made him leave that area since he was doing so well? I worked at BAX for a minute and a half in 1972.

Kevin... Thanks for the nice words. I feel like a dinosaur these days, what with all the new equipment out there and the great stuff the few "live" announcers are doing. But I hang in, doing what I do best: Old guy reaching old people. The Lawrence Welk of local radio.
