Starz to do some chnages

I had Encore and just dropped it. Same movies over & over & over again. I liked the Westerns channels but wasn't worth paying the monthly fee for.

Isn't that the point of the network? Duh... ::)

At least it costs less than HBO or Showtime, which is practically the same strategy.

Uh...not really. HBO and Showtime have been emphasizing their original dramas for years, now. Yes - the theatrical films are the mainstay and take up most of their airtime, but the original dramas are what they have been using to build interest and grow subscriptions. Starz has just barely dipped their toes into that pond.

I enjoy the Encore channels - I probably watch 3 or 4 of their older films a month - usually films from the 90s and 00s that I've wanted to see, but have somehow managed to miss. By itself, Encore wouldn't be worth an additional fee, but where I live, they come with Comcast's upgraded package - I couldn't delete them unless I wanted to downgrade to the "basic" package.

Got rid of them also. I enjoyed the Encore westerns channel, but decided only one channel
was not worth the monthly cost.

Out of all the premium channels, HBO is my personal favorite.
I enjoy all the original programming, such as Curb Your Enthusiasm and Real Time with Bill Maher. Plus, the movie selection is pretty solid, and DIRECTV subs get access to HBO GO for no additional charge on your iPhone/iPad. Now this is where the $12.99 is justified. Almost all the movies playing on HBO are available and you can take them to go, wherever! Better than Netflix IMO because there's a way better selection of movies

For whatever reason, FiOS offers the Showtime networks as part of my deal, and not the HBO networks. My previous cable company, Cablevision, offered the HBO and Starz networks as part of their "silver" package. So when I tried to record "Tyson" on Black Starz the other day on FiOS, thinking that they had a similar deal to Cablevision, I got an empty recording.

I do think HBO is still the best pay-TV channel, but their originals are not as popular as they were a decade ago. However, their movie lineup is great. I wish HBO would repeat more of their newer movies like Starz.

As for Showtime, their movies are not good (expect for the "Twilight and Weinstein movies"). Their originals are getting better and their advertisements/promos are simple and professional. Still, HBO has better movies and original content than Showtime.

As for Starz, better movies than Showtime but they can't compete their movies to HBO. However, I like the way their repeat their newer movies because there are a lot of channels out there and people have busier lives. What Starz and Encore needs to do is the maintain the Disney and Sony contracts and add another major studio and they can be OK with their newer movie supply in the next few years. Also, they need to add older/recurrent movies that have not aired on their network before. For example, add some 20th Century Fox movies from 1998 to 2003.

As for Starz' originals, not as good as HBO and Showtime. It will take some time for them!

St Elmo's Fire & The Breakfeast Club over & over again. How many times do you need to watch them over a six month period? Don't forget, I'm paying for this stuff.

premium channels aren't designed for you to watch them everyday, or even a regular basis. They don't rely on ratings. If you watch 1 movie a week, the channel becomes cheaper then going to the movies once a month, or renting a movie everyweek. Thats it purpose, for when you want to sit back, relax, and put on a movie one of the many channels will have something you havn't seen in a while. Now you watch it all the time, yes obviously its library rotation will become boring.

If you are a loyal customer of about 30 years they help to keep the price of your bundle the same for longer - and occasionally they have some good stuff too.
