State House poodle nips Matt Allen's toe

Did anyone else hear Dave the State House poodle Barber make a complete fool of himself as "Dave from Providence" on the Matt Allen show tonight? :D It was a thing of beauty! I didn't realize it was Barber until a minute or so into his call. My only question is how many scotch on the rocks had "Dave from Providence" consumed before calling Matt to complain about his negativity, to mimmick his "oh my" and to repeatedly tell Matt he should move elsewhere to find happiness.
No doubt Barber (and his sidekick Holley) is the source for any and all published rumors about salaries. ratings etc. at WPRO.
Dave Barber is one bitter bitter soul.
Thanks for the laughs Dave!! ;)

Well said Radio06! The worst talk host I ever heard. Thanks to H. Cooke.
A bitter old man harrassing the new kid on the block.. What a jerk!

I heard the call too. Didn't recognize the voice of the caller at first because I never listened to Barber.
Once Matt called him out I put the voice to those ridiculous interviews on Capitol TV.

Kudos to Matt for telling him 'if he doesn't like the show, don't listen!'

Dave Barber, A-HOLE!!!

Holy Moly. I used to think I was the most hated one here with all my verbal jabs and brutal honesty. It looks like somebody passed me on the left going 90. I think this is a good time for me to take a break away from the board. Things are even getting to ugly for me around here. This isn't healthy.

Cooke and Barber are going after Matt Allen lately why?? I tuned in tonight and 10 min later I did hear Barber. Man he sounded sooooo foolish. He's very Creepy! I give Allen a lot of credit. The more he let Dave Barber talk, the more Dave freaked! I'd say Cooke and Barber are enjoying to much of the Block Island bars! lol....

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Quite agree, this isn't healthy and you do need a break from this board. How you turn the subject matter of this thread into somehow being about you is creepy. Take a rest Sky! You're quite delusional.

"Thank you Sir! May I have another? PLEASE"?

Anybody got an aircheck?
I'd LOVE to hear that.
(At the time you reference, I was on a conference call, which I will allude to below.)

'Would also like-to-have-been-a-fly-on-the-wall for what-was-said OFF-the-air there after.
How would that call get past the screener?

And -- as consultants are-wont-to-do -- may I point-out-something-else-obvious?

Pause the TOPIC of this conversation long-enough to notice THE CONVERSATION ITSELF...this Internet platform.

If listeners were as-engaged-with, as-passionate-about, AM/FM programming as y'all are about non-programming here, radio would be in better shape.

UNTIL NOW, I didn't really "get" Twitter.com.
But this back-and-forth shortform content being-created-on-the-fly here is Twitter-like.

Hear me.
It's worth it.
Pause topic.
Focus on platform.

Imagine if -- doing-this-very-same-kind-of-thing -- YOU COULD MAKE MONEY.
Some people are.

Myself included, thanks to YOU.
Since I linked, several posts back, to http://hollandcooke.com/08June.pdf, three people have subscribed to my newsletter.

$129 X 3 = $387.
So thanks to all the anonymous denizens whose zingers keep pushing this thread to the top of the Providence board.

But I digress...

That conference call I mentioned?
It was with someone I met weekend-before-last weekend at the Talkers magazine New Media Seminar.
He's doing a podcast, about a sports-related topic.
And, to his credit, "it's niche," a very narrow, specialized topic.

In 20 minutes, he-and-I brainstormed 3 ways to make the content more "episodic" and habit-forming; and two ways to MAKE MONEY online.

And, over the weekend, I spoke with someone else, who does local radio, in the Midwest, who has a wrinkle on movie reviews, and is building-it-out online, and having a ball.

My point?
"Channel."

THIS VERY PLATFORM -- which all these silly snipes demonstrate-to-be easy-to-use -- can be so much more than you-talking-about-OTHER-PEOPLE.

YOU can do YOUR thing, here, on this new platform which AM/FM listeners are, measurably wandering-off-to.
You can do whatever-you-want, without permission from the dang corporate suits.
Without do-this-don't-do-that from the dang consultants.
And largely without-spending-a-dime, using all the free apps/software/tools I described in my presentation at the Talkers thing.
For the link to AN ENTIRE PAGE of download links, email [email protected]
The robot will RSVP in moments.

Or you could instead invest-available-time-you-have-for-this-platform talking-about-other-people.

But make no mistake.
Here, The New Platform, is where-the-action-is.
If you don't believe me, lurk, as-anonymously-as-you-need-to, near The Apple Store on July 11.

If radio has been reduced to the-incident-you-described, that's why those people you'll see will be lined-up on the 11th.

Now, if you'll excuse me, my days today/tomorrow/Friday are committed to finding several "Matt Allen-with-a-southern-accent" type hosts.

Tell any likely candidates to send airchecks/resumes to [email protected] (use YouSendIt.com for airchecks).

Later -- no matter HOW good these Matts are -- anonymous local snipers will probably damn me for importing 'em.
As Sonny & Cher sang, "a cowboy's work is never done."

Aloha from Block Island

Holley now why would the call screener WANT to stop Dave's drunken ramble from taking place? ;D
Think Matt an Co. had a big laugh over Dave. I know I did!
(yawning) Now carry on with your incoherent self serving ramble .....

LOL... thanks for one last good laugh before I take my break. Not creepy or delusional at all. To clear up your obvious confusion, I'm simply commenting on how this board is becoming a place where everyone seems to dislike each other now. A place where more and more people just come to fight. I made my comment in this particular thread because it's happening right here "IN THIS THREAD". How about that? Does it make sense to you now? People are even turning against Cooke and Barber now. It's time for me to take a rest. I'm burnt out. I want to have a relaxing summer. I can't do that by coming here and arguing with you loons. I'll be back in a couple of months.

It's not dislike Sky. I just love to have fun with self agrandizing blowhards like Holley Cooke. Holley has no idea how unimpressed most folk are with him. Just so much fun letting him know that.
Sky had you heard Dave Barber on with Matt last night you would have found my comments, and those of others who heard him, to be quite accurate and fair.
Not a matter of like vs dislike. It's a matter of professional vs unprofessional behavior.
Barber stepped in it big time last night. Matt handled himself quite professionally.

100 percent agree Radio 06! Matt was professional, Barber was, I honestly believe , very drunk!
As for Holland C. I had NO idea he was such an idiot.

This board AMAZES me!!

"I had NO idea he was such an idiot. "

Now that we've got THAT cleared-up...

Are you kidding?
ANYONE who does this is a masochist.
But Arbitron doesn't care.
It-works-the-way-it-works despite who's-doing-what.

No matter WHO-the-consultant-is...
No matter HOW-approachable/affable/supportive he/she is...
Just listen carefully in that conference room.
You'll hear sphincters clicking-shut all-around the table.

This is something that people-who-do-what-I-do -- in ANY industry -- volunteer for.

Arbitron doesn't care.

But the most-offensive thing that's been said about me here is "scotch."

As my Academy Award-winning neighbor said in "The Dogs of War:" "You've got me mixed-up with someone else!"

Ciroc Vodka martini, "kinda* dry," up, two olives hand-stuffed-with-bleu-cheese like the do at The Palm and Capital Grille.

Scotch...
THAT'S just plain wrong.

HC

* "Kinda dry:" Vermouth in the same Area Code, but not the same Zip Code, as the vodka.
