"Thank you Sir! May I have another? PLEASE"?
Anybody got an aircheck?
I'd LOVE to hear that.
(At the time you reference, I was on a conference call, which I will allude to below.)
'Would also like-to-have-been-a-fly-on-the-wall for what-was-said OFF-the-air there after.
How would that call get past the screener?
And -- as consultants are-wont-to-do -- may I point-out-something-else-obvious?
Pause the TOPIC of this conversation long-enough to notice THE CONVERSATION ITSELF...this Internet platform.
If listeners were as-engaged-with, as-passionate-about, AM/FM programming as y'all are about non-programming here, radio would be in better shape.
UNTIL NOW, I didn't really "get" Twitter.com.
But this back-and-forth shortform content being-created-on-the-fly here is Twitter-like.
Hear me.
It's worth it.
Pause topic.
Focus on platform.
Imagine if -- doing-this-very-same-kind-of-thing -- YOU COULD MAKE MONEY.
Some people are.
Myself included, thanks to YOU.
Since I linked, several posts back, to
http://hollandcooke.com/08June.pdf, three people have subscribed to my newsletter.
$129 X 3 = $387.
So thanks to all the anonymous denizens whose zingers keep pushing this thread to the top of the Providence board.
But I digress...
That conference call I mentioned?
It was with someone I met weekend-before-last weekend at the Talkers magazine New Media Seminar.
He's doing a podcast, about a sports-related topic.
And, to his credit, "it's niche," a very narrow, specialized topic.
In 20 minutes, he-and-I brainstormed 3 ways to make the content more "episodic" and habit-forming; and two ways to MAKE MONEY online.
And, over the weekend, I spoke with someone else, who does local radio, in the Midwest, who has a wrinkle on movie reviews, and is building-it-out online, and having a ball.
My point?
"Channel."
THIS VERY PLATFORM -- which all these silly snipes demonstrate-to-be easy-to-use -- can be so much more than you-talking-about-OTHER-PEOPLE.
YOU can do YOUR thing, here, on this new platform which AM/FM listeners are, measurably wandering-off-to.
You can do whatever-you-want, without permission from the dang corporate suits.
Without do-this-don't-do-that from the dang consultants.
And largely without-spending-a-dime, using all the free apps/software/tools I described in my presentation at the Talkers thing.

The robot will RSVP in moments.
Or you could instead invest-available-time-you-have-for-this-platform talking-about-other-people.
But make no mistake.
Here, The New Platform, is where-the-action-is.
If you don't believe me, lurk, as-anonymously-as-you-need-to, near The Apple Store on July 11.
If radio has been reduced to the-incident-you-described, that's why those people you'll see will be lined-up on the 11th.
Now, if you'll excuse me, my days today/tomorrow/Friday are committed to finding several "Matt Allen-with-a-southern-accent" type hosts.
Tell any likely candidates to send airchecks/resumes to
[email protected] (use YouSendIt.com for airchecks).
Later -- no matter HOW good these Matts are -- anonymous local snipers will probably damn me for importing 'em.
