State Lawmaker says Public Broadcasting Gets 16% cut in State Aid

I received an email from a former colleague who told me she heard Assemblywoman Susan John of Rochester saying that the state cut in aid to Public Broadcasting is around 16%.

My question , for those who would know, is this 16% reduction across the board and impacting every public station in New York?

Mark asks, "is this 16% reduction across the board and impacting every public station in New York?"

AFAIK, every station is taking the same haircut, affecting the same funding streams. :(

Bob-

Looking on the optimistic side 16% is still better than the 50% cut originally proposed. Remember back in the early 1990s when (Mario) Cuomo cut funding for public broadcasting? What percentage was that? I'm thinking 10%, but I might be wrong. ???

IIRC it was a much bigger cutback in both raw dollar terms and relative impact than we're seeing today, something like a million dollars a year.

You sure it was a million dollar cut?

I don't remember it being that much; but then again who remembers back 12 or 13 years ago?

I do remember that a few people lost their jobs.
