State legislative sessions: should they be on TV (a-la C-SPAN)?

Here we have CT-N, the Connecticut Network. It has mandatory carriage on all of the state's cable franchises.

The station's 10th anniversary is March 10th ironically. I think it's well worth it, and when they're not showing live hearings or committee meetings, they're showing recently taped footage 24/7. Late Sunday evenings, they replay the Sunday morning political/public affairs programs from the CBS, FOX, and NBC affiliates in Hartford. CT-N does a really good job, and I'd agree that every state should have something like this, if cost effective.

That channel cost Cox Cable Meriden to delete WNBC and place CT-N on basic cable. Would like to have WNBC also.

WFYI/Indianapolis does this on one of its digital subchannels. Don't konw if any of the cable providers carry the service, though.

Yep. I remember it used to on a channel in the 50s before. And I don't know why Cox couldn't just move WNBC to another channel number or something. They just moved HSN to channel 8 from the high numbers and they keep moving away channels from regular cable like TCM, CMT, MTV2. I now live where I have Time Warner Cable and they ofter more channels on regular cable which Cox has on digital cable. And those channels are TCM, CMT, Hallmark, Speed, VS, Lifetime Movie Network, Oxygen, WE, Style (not that I care about the last four) plus they also ofter WGN. But I am thinking why Cox doesn't have these channels on regular cable is because their are 3 local sport networks NESN, YES and Comcast Sports Net. Unlike where I am their is only one being FSN.

Good idea actually !!

I'm not sure if either Virginia or West Virginia offers such a service ( if Virginia does, its not available where I live at ).

Same thing with city and county government meetings too. Sometimes even those can quite interesting and quite fun to watch like this exchange between two members of our local council that I caught on TV one night a few weeks back......

"...what our children of today need the most is someone to look up with good clean Christian values.."

"..I agree..."

"...for example there is Seth Rogen..the kids like him and they really look up to him...very good role model for our children !!'

"..ah EXCUSE ME...SETH ROGEN !!!!! SETH ROGEN !!...how did you come up with him? Did you see his latest movie..Pineapple Express?"

"..no..not yet...I wouldn't mind having my kids see it...I am sure its a great family movie...and besides my kids..they love to watch movies filmed in Hawaii !!"

Whoops !!!!!!!

Do they still do that? I know they used to, but I haven't heard anything recently. If so, which subchannel is it on? 20.2? 20.3?

I think its 20.3, but I don't get a solid WFYI-DT signal.

California has coverage as well courtesy of the California Channel.

DirecTV does not carry the California Channel though for its California subscribers, nor, for that matter do they carry the other really good public affairs channel from the University of California System, www.uctv.tv, or even here in San Diego, UCSan Diego's TV channel which is carried by all of the local cable systems.

I can't get WFYI-DT OTA reliably, but I get 20.1 & 20.3 on Comcast, and I have never found the Indiana House stuff on either of those. Allegedly it was on 20.2 when they did carry it, but Comcast refuses to carry 20.2 as long as it primarily duplicates analog 20.

WGBX-TV Channel 44 in Boston (secondary PBS station) used to air it. I remember it would often pre-empt the 5:30 airing of Sesame Street, and I'd get really upset when I was little. I'm not sure if they still do it, but I haven't checked in awhile.
