State Of New Orleans Radio

I find New Orleans radio very boring. There is never any talk or anything. So here is a topic. What stations do you like? which stations do you not like? What should be flipped? what should be tweaked a little? In 2011 what stations do you think will flip? What changes as a whole do you think should be added to New Orleans radio?

Favs:
WTIX-FM - large variety & local;
ROCK92.3 - finally someone got new rock right and without the formula everywhere else that mixes in the same 3 songs by each: Zeppelin, Van Halen, ACDC, Pink Floyd;
The Brew 104.1 - has a more varied playlist than Bayou, but no personality and "The Brew" is just a stupid moniker.
As for the others:
Bayou 95.7 - same old 2 or 3 songs by the same artists - BORING ! (same for Walton & Johnson)
WWL's - too many damn commercials ! 3 minutes of talk and then 6 minutes of ads - not worth dialing up.
99.5 - a WASTE of the dial position of the former "Rock of New Orleans" - Rush is so DONE !
93.3, 98.5, 106.7, 102.9 - not my ethnicity - so no comment
B-97 - cannot stand any piped-in crap from wherever - so Kidd Craddick can go. Middays & evenings are tolerable BUT that Afternoon Swirl is the MOST ANNOYING SHOW EVER ON RADIO - they pay those idiots ?
Magic 101.9 - a little too laid back for me - so no comment since I never listen.
What's missing? a true Contemporary Jazz station - haven't had one for years and probablt never will.
I really don't see radio ever coming back - the corporates have lost their future - my kid and all friends all do the iPods now - they literally NEVER listen to radio and don't see the need to pay for satelite - if they buy it for their iPod - why should they pay monthly to buy it over and over again - they say it, not me.
You asked for an opinion - so there is one to start things off.

Will anything flip? The better question might be is if anything will be sold? Formats probabally flip IF Cumulus buys Citadel and holds on to N.O. or sell. Does Cumulus take newly aquired ESPN radio from Entercom or not depends on if they go to sports on one of their new frequencies and bids on the Saints or holds on to the Hornets and Zephyrs. Music stations? Who knows?

With the exception of WWL, WIST, WTUL, WWOZ, and Rock 92.3 I basically don't listen to no radio any more. I do listen alot to KLEB/KLRZ, KXOR, KCIL when I feel like something different,
1049 the X, and WDGL 98.1. I almost forgot KJIN, and KTIB.

I have slowly stopped listening to the radio more and more the past few six months. I started listening to Ginty & Brady out of curiosity. I'm a fan of Ginty since the early days of the End. I have to admit that it's not all that great but I listen anyway.

Lately I have been passing the time at work listening to podcasts on the iPod. I mix podcasts, music, and clips from Rod Ryan from Houson into a playlist and that fills most of my ten hour days.

I really don't find anything good to listen to in the New Orleans area. Sometimes I listen to CPR from Mississippi and at night I like to do a little bit of AM DX'ing. Even that is getting to be the same syndicated crap across the dial.

My only comment on any particular station would be on WWL. It's good listening during an approaching hurricane and for Saints games. That's about it.

Just because TIX FM has a lot of variety and is local doesn't make it good. Do they still have "Last Train To Clarksville" and "Come, on Eileen" in power rotation like on 'RNO in the 80's?

Sorry, Megacycler - have to DISAGREE !
Variety of music is key to many people - can't stand hearing the same two songs by Journey, or Zeppelin, or Pink Floyd. That's why so many have switched to satellite - more songs than the same old two by any artist of any genre.
I know a lot of people who don't like satellite because it has NO local flavor. Because of that they resort to an iPod with no commercials.
I can take Clarksville but could also pass on Eileen. However, if I hear "Don't Stop Believin" one more time by Journey - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ! (and I love Journey - just not this one anymore since it is ALWAYS on)
