Station-by-Station Opinions - WIBC

I thought that with this being a rather "Dead" period, we should look at the Indy Market Station by Station, and talk about likes, dislikes. I figure we could run through a station a day, or anyone could start a new post about a station at any time. First up, WIBC

Time for a change after Limbaugh - Dave's a great comedian - but I think it's time for a more "newsy" oriented, topic driven call-in show for PM drive.

I don't like a lot of what they put out, but I think their audience is a little older than me, too. I do like the big one out of Cincy, so it isn't like news talk is just an older person thing. They need an Abdul like personality that can revive interest in the younger people, morning and afternoon drive, before I wouild start listening again.

While I agree that Dave Wilson needs to go, I cannot imagine that audience finding any interest in Abdul. If you saw the last trend, he is not bringing any listeners to the table, young or old. I can remember when WIBC dared to be interesting by putting on someone like Dick Wolfsie. I am not sure what the answer is for that station, but some type of evolution needs to take place.

Other than Rush and Pacer games, what reason would a young person listen? The main annoyance is Garrison. He prefaces a lot a statements with "I 'm not familiar with" and then spends an hour talking about it. He may be the most uninformed person I have listened to. Go out to the national shows from 9 am to 5 pm and do your local stuff in drive time.

First, with DST starting in April, and the time zone to be determined, it will be interesting to see what WIBC does with Rush. Will they air him live at 11AM (if central time zone we go) or noon (if eastern). In either case, that leaves a hole of 1 or 2 hours before Wilson starts. Will they expand Wilson's show??

+++++++++++++++++++++++OR++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

They still tape delay him for a 1pm start and keep the status quo. If they delay Rush, I will still keep listening to WHBU, WLS or WHAS for the live show.

Until then, I don't see any changes being made.

Here's a question: If there are all these things supposedly wrong with WIBC, then why do so many people listen to them? I read in previous posts that they need an Abdul-like personality. Well, he's out there, yet according to the ratings no one seems to be listening. So what's the deal?

WIBC is great for news and information, and of course, is our greatest "heritage" station in the market. However, the station sounds stale. Besides all of the changes the others on this board have recommended, how about something as simple as bringing back some selected Heller WIBC jingles from the 70's? I'm not sure which package they are using now, but they are BORING. If you remember the Heller packages, they were unusual and full of energy - something that 1070 is lacking right now.

Well, Abdul needs some advertising. Word of mouth isn't getting it for him, I guess, and there is absolutely no advertising (unless you have seen an Abdul bilboard someplace.)

And as for an Abdul-like personality, I wouldn't mind someone who likes to shake up the capital politics with some questions, kinda like Rush but locally. What does Dave Wilson do? Weather?
