In response to the one about WQDR also standing for "We Quit Doing Rock" from when they switched from rock to country in 1984, I have another good one for WQDR: "We Quit Doing Racing," in response to CMG's moving the NASCAR race broadcasts from QDR to WPTF...

WDJS - Wayne, Duplin, Johnson and Sampson counties (Mt. Olive, NC)

AM 1330's call letters also have an alternate meaning, World's Biggest Textile Mill, a reference to the former Dan River Mills which literally put the City by the Dan "on the map". Of course, the golden leaf was big as well. The tobacco auction was pioneered in Danville, and was referred to as the "Danville System".

Charlotte's 50,000-watt WBT had a similar dual meaning, the Chamber of Commerce-friendly Where Buicks Travel and the industry-oriented World's Best Textiles.

Regarding WBTM, I had never heard the textile meaning, but it certainly makes sense.

;D When WTHZ in Lexington was country and the calls were WKOQ..somebody came up with "We Kiss Our Queers"!!!

Back in the 70's there was a WQDR Rock clone down in the Greenville NC area that had an AM with calls that stood for We're Farmville And Greenville, and at the time these calls were formulated a *** was a cigarette, still the calls WFAG made you perk up and say, HUNH??!!! WHAT were they smokin' when they came up with THOSE calls? ...Must've been Pall Malls. Tastes Great and they are Smooooth!

1250 The Big F a g

It was mentioned earlier. Aside from the cigarette reference it stood for Watch Farmville Area Grow.

I remember hearing that WFAG or was it WDOG as I traveled across I-26 to Myrtle. They had so much reverb, you could'nt figure out what they were saying!

WGOG-Wahalla, SC- Goddess Of The Gods, WSB-Atlanta-Welcome south Brother. WAGA-Atlanta-Atlanta Georgia, WSPA- Spartanburg SC- Spartanburg
