The Bar?

Hell No! Russell is doing a great job over there. And As far as I can tell kicking butt in the 25-54 demo.

I'll go ahead and say, now that the station made the announcment on air around 6 today. It's Texas Radio 98.7 (KTXN). They will be jukeboxing over the weekend with no commercials, then it's adios.

Well I will miss that station,,, I still miss the beat.

From another board:

Sad Day

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a sad thing, but what you all have heard is true. I will make the formal announcement this afternoon.

We have had a good run, and enjoyed the hell out of the time we have spent here on the redneck riviera. Not sure what is in store for the frequency 98.7, however "Texas Radio" will be live on the internet coming up in a week or two.

I will keep everyone updated. Thank you to all our listeners, ya'll are what make this a heartbreaker.

Good lord willing "Texas Radio" will rise again!

Steve Coffman Jr.

Poops

Very sad. :'(

I was fortunate to have met the late Steve Coffman Sr. years ago in Victoria and there was no nicer man and no one more passionate about what he was doing. I realize times change, but it's tough seeing all the work he put in to that station go down the tubes.

I wish they would stay around, they sounded good, The best station that played Texas music at least what I think, I havnt heard a better station than them. It will be missed by many!

KTXN 98.7-98.7 reaches the entire Crossroads, Gulf coast, and south central Texas area. Corpus Christi to San Antonio, Austin to Houston.

I've never heard this station here in S.A.

I've caught KTXN outside of Corpus one time but I would think KBBT would be over riding KTXN unless it was a extreme skip conditions.

Also, keep in mind that, for at least the last 15 years, there's always been something either on 98.7 or right next to it. Prior to KBBT's signon, 94.1 had a translator on 98.7 in San Antonio. It was a pretty good translator signal. In the early 90's, KTXN was off-the-air more than it was on it seemed. It passed from one owner and format to another time and again.

I suppose some people in the far southeast part of the San Antonio market, like around Floresville, might be able to get the station if they put up an outdoor antenna, but that's a real stretch to call it a San Antonio station.

By the way, is there any word on what 98.7 is airing, if anything, right now?

Word is that there is about to be a lot of shake up with the dark stations in V-Town. Radioworks and GAP are about to swap and buy what is left.

Is KVIC going to move to 104.7?

Is KTXN Silent now? I'm not down in the area at the moment, but I usually pick them up with my antenna and i'm not getting nothing.

This is a huge shame and a loss for red-dirt Texas and Americana music. I love the format and thought it was well-executed, the few times I could hear it. RIP.

I was on the staff when Texas Radio launched it's exciting new format in Victoria. We had so many calls! It was amazing. Steve left a brand of radio that no one else could duplicate, you can always copy a playlist, but when you get personalities like the station had. It made live radio very cool. I'd like to wish everyone that was involved in that station the best of luck! I'm greatful for the time I spent with Texas Radio. It was a cool place to work.

Can somebody explain what happened? Did they run out of money? Did the feds shut them down? Were they bought by somebody else? Nobody has said why they are off the air. I was under the understanding that 98.7 was the second coming of radio in South Texas.
