Station calling it quits

No listeners + no advertising = No money.

No money = no payroll checks and no electric bills being paid.

I wouldn’t say they had no listeners. (Have you ever been to one of their Mardi Gras?) But lets face it. An AAA format with an Americana lean will never be #1 in a market.....nor is it supposed to be. It was about offering something different in a sea of homogenized radio. It was about standing out. It was about doing what you believe in, and consequences be damned. They Texas Radio audience may not be as big as a country audience....but their loyalty and passion were unmatched.

But in the end, you do need money to pay the bills. And the fact that the station was leased probably did not help.

I'm curious what the owner of the frequency (Joe Tibeletti sp?) is going to do with it. Sell it...lease it....? Now that guy is VERY strage. I know radio attracts wierdos, but this guy takes the cake!

RadioG did a fine job with her description.

Texas Radio was a joy to operate and to be a part of.

~Steve Coffman Jr.

Thanks June, miss ya man. I'm sure you have something great up your sleeve. Like the phoenix, I know the Texasmix will rise again.....

Radio Girl: I have to agree with you, in the end you have to have money to pay the bills. That's for any station, any town, USA.

But the part I really agree you with is "It was about doing what you believe in, and consequences be damned." The consequence, in this case, is silence.

I too, worked for the late Steve Coffman late 1999-2000 with Egon (Hi Egon!!) at the station there in Victoria. I learned so much from him and my time there...I hope I can continue to do something with my station that Steve, Junebug, Egon and all of our listeners would be proud of.

When can we get these Silent stations going again??
4 stations Silent in Victoria? Come on... As a radio fan I would like to have more stations!

Good Question. Anyone out there with their ear to the ground that has hear anything? I havent heard squat.

Let's see. There's 104.7, 94.1, 98.7 and what else? 96.1?

I did always think there were a large number of stations in Victoria for such a small market.

Does Roy still have 96.1? I noticed KIOX is on it. I wonder if he will do anything with them. I wonder how well a Bob or Jack will do? I guess 92.3 is kind of headed in that direction.

96.1 (it was KEZB but now called KIOX) has been sold to the people who own KULP-AM in El Campo. I don't know what format they will do with it, but I hear it will be back on the air sometime later this spring.

Mhh, this is interesting, my money was that KHMC would have bought this station. Would have made more sense for them. They have a construction permit to build a booster in the outskirts of Victoria. Maybe by buying KIOX, they could have upgraded and becomed a local station, not a rimshot.
