Station Denies Its Former Weather Anchor Is Dead

Now, here's an odd one out of WSLS/10, the NBC affiliate in Roanoke/Lynchburg, VA.

Weather anchor Marc Lamarre, a long-time station meteorologist, disappeared from the WSLS airwaves recently. And for whatever reason, a large number of viewers believed Lamarre actually passed away!

WSLS GM Kathy Mohn felt the need to dispel the rumors, in an interview with the station's primary anchor, John Carlin:

Between this, and reports about "rumors swirling" over the past few months about his potential dismissal, it sounds pretty cut and dried. But who knows how this death thing started?

Can ANYONE remember if this has ever happened in local TV news before? A station takes to the airwaves to tell viewers their former weather anchor has not died?

Maybe...A Shocking Answer...

Odder than we thought. And this would explain a lot, from today's Roanoke Times:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/xp-52105>http://www.roanoke.com/news/roanoke/wb/xp-52105</a>

"A Detroit man is being held on federal charges in connection with the near-fatal heroin overdose of former WSLS (Channel 10) meteorologist Marc Lamarre, a Salem defense attorney said."

I gotta say...it takes a lot these days to make my jaw drop, but this did it. I know the market pretty well, and that's about the last thing I'd expect to have heard behind this story.
