Station ID

I think i had an unintentional catch here in southern california ;D
Listening to 1200/KYAA out of Soquel, a regular catch here, a news/talk station came in with a promo for Sean Hannity. Is there a possibility that it is anything but WOAI/San Antonio? That would be my best catch, further away than CKWX/Vancouver and KGHL/Billings, MT

Thanks

This could absolutely be WOAI from San Antonio. Their prime location gives them a very large chunk of North American real estate. I can hear them just about every night even up here in southern Michigan (an over 1,100 mile jog). They're fighting with another 1200 in Ottawa, but it's still there.

AM stations can travel ridiculously long distances at night. I get Cubans (at least 1,300 miles!) here on a regular basis. I've heard KSL from Salt Lake City (1,400 miles) a couple times, but my distance record belongs to KNX, which was positively ID'ed from 1,890 miles in January '10 with Burbank weather and the iconic KNX traffic sounder. I've also heard KFI here and they are my second most distant log, just 18 miles behind KNX.

You should try for WWL in So Cal! I've heard it can be done. I don't know how the other 870's in Los Angeles and Las Vegas come in to your area, but it's worth a shot!

I've tried for WWL, but can never null out the signal from KRLA/870 in Glendale. I've heard of someone in Palm Springs picking up WWL, but I am considerably more to the west. Great catch of our local KNX! I wonder if you could get the powerhouse 64/KFI from Los Angeles..

I did hear them here, but just one time. I've confirmed KNX twice. With only three stations between here and LA on 640, it seems like KFI would be a much easier catch than it is!

Next stop is San Francisco and KNBR. I've also been trying for CBU and CKWX from Vancouver. I think i've heard CBU, but haven't been able to confirm it!

CKWX sure has quite a giddy-up to its signal. I received it under KSDO, a station here in Southern CA on 1130. I'm trying to get WHO/1040 in Des Moines, Iowa, but only hear muttered speaking that i can't ID.

Just north of Chicago, KFI used to be an easy catch, but in recent years WMFN near Grand Rapids, Mi kills it for me. Can still catch KNX every once in awhile here.

WOAI has a real strong nighttime signal here in Tampa which the Gulf probably helps enhance but figuring it's almost half way between here and where you are, the signal should easily be able to make it where you are.
