Station Loggings

Can someone help me fill in what I could have been picking up?

http://rob.luniac.com/

I'm near Pensacola, FL and skip was up last night (and probably tonight)

Take a look at my loggings and see.

-Rob

Rob--Here is a partial list. I was in Panama city area in 2003, and i occasionally hear some of these via skip or in a couple cases, regularly:88.5-WBHY-FM, Mobile, AL; 89.9-WJTF, Panama City,FL; 92.5-WPAP, Panama City, FL .95.3 poses a question mark because in '99 or 2000, I heard our own WZNF, Gulfport/Biloxi, MS from Destin, FL.They had a CP to go 100,000 watts from an 1100+ ft tower. 95.9-WRBA, PCB. 98.5-WFSY also PCB. 101.1-WYOO. 105.9 was indeed WILN aka "Island 106". 106.5--the classic rock log could have been WAVH, in the Mobile area. 106.7 sounds like it could have been WKMX, Enterprise, AL. Finally, something that I have wanted to do that you may have accomplished--the counttry log on 107.9 might have been our own WZKX, Gulfport/Biloxi, MS. "Kicker 108" also having a CP for a higher tower recently. Hope this info might have helped you some.73.

I thought it was enterprise (107 the country side) it's warm and foggy here and some of my ham friends told me to bring out the radio and sure enough.

Too bad 93.7 can't get a CP to get a bigger tower or a translator in Fort Walton. This area needs an FM news talker.

Now on the MW side, could the 650 be WSM? Note this was done during the daytime as I don't care about the yaa yaa yaaas that invade our nighttime radio (Mexico) All though, I did hear music on MW 900 but the announcer was speaking spanish. This new radio I have really kicks the lamas ass.

-Rob

Rob-I've gotten WSM a number of times from Englewood Beach FL from 1/2 to 1 hr before local sunset, a distance of 600 mi plus a number of times. All I know about FM in FLA is that the big sticks get out over 100 mi in what I would describe as "tropo light." We have a lot of nights where UHF's come in from 70-80 mi clear as a bell on a 99 cent bow tie but I don't get anything in the 200 mi plus range.

Do you happen to know what the music channel 900 is? Some mexico station that's strong here

Rob

and it makes me wonder why our AM is so limited @ night.

if were limited to 50KW why are some of the lower powered am forced to shut down or reduce.
and that's not right.

-Rob

hey rob...

have you ever heard of the FCC table of allocations?
think of radio coverage as a big puzzle: there are some large pieces scattered around (high power)...
and some tiny, non-significant pieces mixed in, too.
they all have to fit...and can't be changed at will

ok, bad analogy...but you should read a little bit about this before posting

as for outside of the US...there are agreements between the US, Canada, and Mexico...
and the Mexico City station is operating legally...as are the great majority of others
there's just too many of 'em...but only DXers notice

Uh, there is no table of allocations for AM. The tables only exist for full-power FM and TV.

Because they're protecting someone who was there first. I'm sure WENO (my local station on 760, in Nashville) doesn't like having to go off the air at sunset to protect WJR in Detroit. But WJR was on 760 first, by several decades. They really don't deserve to lose a potentially profitable chunk of their audience to interference from a Nashville station that didn't show up until the 1970s.

A principle that's sometimes a bit difficult for the layman to understand is that the area in which a station can cause interference is MUCH greater than the area in which it can provide useful service. Especially on AM.

i'm aware of the agreements but it's just stupid. there is no clear AM station at night because WFTW drops to 250 watts (directional) though WWL comes in rather clean it gets bounced by the famous RR out of Cuba. (don't know where the translator is though)

Time for the rules to be changed to allow us to have fair play on the airwaves ... even though that will probably cause chaos at night (and it's bad enough)

and yet according to radio locator, i'm within the redzone of WFTW @ night (the local groundwave)

Thee's been a mass migration from many of the northern cities that had the good fortune to best the best frequencies to the "sunbelt." If the airwaves are free why are they "grandfathered'" and why are the sunbelt cities continue to be "underserved" for the lack of a better term?

You own WWW AM-1530. It's a four-tower directional operation on 7 acres, and has been on the air from that site since 1947.

Next door is the Tower Point Mall. Built in 1965, the builders would like to have had a larger parking lot but the bus service was adequate to keep their stores profitable, and in any case there wasn't any other property available where there would be more parking.

Now, it's 2007. Tower Point is having problems. Nobody will ride the bus, so when their customers drive out, they can't find a parking space. They leave and take their business to North Towne Plaza. Tower Point must have more space for parking.

So they get the city to give them 3 acres of your land, including the ground under towers #1 and #4.
