Station Longevity

...Dick Goddard Weatherman 1966-Present WJW-TV (44 years and counting)..Add in 1961-65 at KYW He's been in Cleveland nearly 49 years (Spent a few months in 1965-66 in Philadelphia)

Hey Tim,

When is the Wooly Bear festival?

HA!

Michael:

Regarding Stan Chambers at KTLA. He started there in late 1947 and has held bunches upon bunches of jobs. His books "News at Ten," and the updated "News at 10" detailed his career as well as the big happenings at KTLA. It takes the KTLA Anniversary Specials farther in that more details are added. The specials kind of "gloss over" the events cramming forty, fifty, and sixty years into a two- to three-hour program.

For those interested in TV history I highly recommend those books.

And, I do not receive any compensation for this mention.

Mike

Chuck Henry...1972 and still on KNBC.

Chuck had a 5 year or so stint in Chicago at WMAQ. That is where I first saw him. He was also news anchor for the ABC affiliate, KHVH (now KITV) in Honolulu from 1969-1971.

Joe Moore has been on local television in Honolulu since 1969, went from sports to news in 1981 and held the anchorspot solo ever since then.

Chuck Scarborough in NYC has been doing the news for WNBC for many years.

As for Phoenix...whatever happened to Dewey Hopper? Diane Ryan has been in Phoenix for 25 plus years....

I think Dave Munsey started in the late 70s or very early 80s in television news.....

Remember Bill Close being held hostage on the news circa 1976 by a crazed gunman?

Dewey Hopper I think had some time in Sacramento at some point...most recently he did the local news inserts for 1480/KPHX AM (a couple of years ago).

Early '80s, IIRC, is when he shifted from AM drive on KOOL-FM to KOOL-TV weather dude
(I think before the TV was sold and calls changed to KTSP-TV).

May 28, 1982 (the Friday before Memorial Day). Be sure to send your extra Johnny Cash
records to Joe Billie. ;D

We have a Tucson resident who knows a thing or two about longevity. His name is Don Pardo, and he is 92 years old. He worked as an announcer for NBC for 60 years. He then retired and moved to Tucson, but SNL couldnt think about the show without him, so they fly him in every weekend they are live.

That's longevity, PEEPS!!!
;D

I know his daughter Donna. It's quite interesting to hear his voice on her voicemail.

I didn't know that Don Pardo lived in Tucson! He is a true legend. I remember watching Jeopardy when I was a little kid with Art Fleming and Don Pardo on our B&W television. What a great, classic game show that has endured for so long!!
