Station of the Stars returns to Phila.

That great Big Band, Station of the Stars sound is now on the air 24/7 at http://HarveySheldonPhillyRadio.com

Harvey Sheldon, born and raised in South Philly, keeps those special memories alive for a celebration of the timeless American songbook and the hits of the 40's & 50s as played on the WPEN 950 Club & WFIL's Bob Horn's Bandstand. It was while on Bandstand that Harvey Sheldon - co-creator of the " Bunny Hop " - had the concept of having kids dance to the current hit records.

Philly was a major influence in the Golden Age of Music. In the 1940's, 50's and the early years of rock and roll, a number of South Philadelphia-born popular vocalists made Philadelphia and popular music virtually synonymous, including Eddie Fisher, Lillian Roth, Kitty Kallen, Al Martino, Mario Lanza, Jeanette MacDonald, The Four Aces, of Pop music and to rock artists of Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, Gogi Grant and Bobby Rydell and many more.

It was the era of the Big Swing Bands and Pop music... Remember the jukebox filled with all of the hit parade? Now you can hear all this great music again! Just click the jukebox on HarveySheldonPhillyRadio.com to listen. And you don't even have to put in a nickel!

I may have the name wrong or it could be a different guy with the same name, but is this the Harvey Sheldon who, back in the early-mid '60s, owned WUPY (later WUPI) Lynn MA (105.3) and also owned and FM (at 95.5, I think) in Miami FL? The guy I'm thinking of got into some sort of trouble with the FCC and lost the licenses for both stations. Back then, FM licenses, even in major markets, were a dime a dozen. If I've got the name right and this is, indeed, the same guy, this sounds like the sort of venture he could easily have been involved with.

Harvey say's he did own WUPY Lynn MA, in the early 60's. He didn't run into trouble with FCC. He sold the stations at a marginal profit.

I'm going to give it a try. If it is as good as Hy Lit Radio, it will be well worth it. Amazing that the internet reaches all the way here to Pittsburgh.
