STATION ON 1630 AM

I am hearing some kind of audio loop ad for Honda or something on 1630 AM
It has a good signal, but muddy audio in the Galleria area of town, but
I can't seem to find out where it is coming from. Usuallay these ad-loop stations are connected to a billboard, but only have a range of a block or so. Any info on this.

YOu could be right. Back in November (2005) I was traveling south on Fondren from Richmond on my way to WestPark. In the esplanade, there was a hand painted sign that read: "94.9 FM."

It was across the street from Electronic Parts Outlet. I tuned in and they were talking about their clear out specials. It was the manager and some of his employees. I turned left on Westpark to get on the Tollway. I lost them when I got to the ramp. I figure it had a 2 block range at the most. I wonder how many of those operate. They're probably not illegal due to the very small coverage.

This reminds me of the guy who lives in Lakeside Apts. in the 300 block Wilcrest. He operates on 92.5FM. He calls it KBTL. He has a love for The Beatles. In fact he has a link in which he streams.

You can hear it at Memorial and Wilcrest and south on Wilcrest to the Westside Tennis Club and hear it. It's stongest of course, in front of Lakeside Apts. Again, the coverage may be as much as 2 or even 3 blocks.

These Honda microcasters have been reported in a number of other cities the last couple of weeks, so it looks like they've arrived in Houston as well.

Cadillac dealers had something similar with their "Radio Cadillac" broadcasts a few years ago--there was one such station on 1500 somewhere on the North Freeway--actually got out several miles, if you were able to null out KANI.

There's a billboard on 610 south after coming in on 290 that says something about "what would a (vehicle name) and a crab talk about, tune to ____ to find out". I'm guessing that's what this is.

I know play-by-play broadcasters use these low powered transmitters for out of town broadcasts so the visiting team's fans can get the radio feed there. They're low powered enough to not be of concern to the FCC.

Here a link to a thread on the Tampa Bay board regarding the Honda microcaster there:
