Station on 87.7 in the Memphis area

Hello Memphis Board.

I live in Nashville and on my drives to work in the morning (around 7am), I have been receiving a station on 87.7 that IDs itself as WMPS, Memphis' Conservative Talk. Some mornings, the station has a rock solid signal with no fading.

I am wondering if this is audio from a analog Channel 6 in the Memphis area? I can find no records in the FCC Database for WMPS on this frequency. I do see a listing for an AM Station with the same call sign in the Memphis area.

Also, would you know how much power and the antenna HAAT this station has. As I stated, it comes in quite regularly with a very strong signal.

Thanks in advance for any info you may have on this station.

The conservative talk format started out as a simulcast on AM 1210 but after the recent floods Radio Ambient was moved to the 1210 signal. The Regional Mexican format had previously occupied AM 1030 which has been silent since the floods.

Here is the stations website:

A friend reported to me a few months ago he could hear 87.7 in his car as he topped every hill near Enid MS. Amazing what a clear open channel can do.
The days before the Docket 80-90 changes where good ones for fellow DX'ers.

Sounds like it's mounted on a flat-bed truck.

Thanks for all the information. I used to pick up Channel 6 here in Nashville on 87.7, but they have since gone digital. And, years ago, I have heard Paducah, KY on the same frequency.

There was a channel 6 here in Nashville? I only knew about the one in Paducah (WPSD-TV), since I used to live about an hour from there, and could, of course, pick them up at 87.7 on the FM dial.

There was a station on Channel 6 licensed to Alexandria, TN and based out of Lebanon. It came in pretty well in Eastern Davidson County. The station call sign until 2008 was WKRP, now it is WRTN. The analog Channel 6 is gone, but they are digital, providing 5 streams of programming. I think their physical channel may be 7.
