Station sold???

Rumors out in my part of the world say WEUS 810 has been sold. I know they have been on the block since Day One but for a price too rich to consider.

Supposedly, the new owners are either "religious" broadcasters or otherwise and a new format will be religious.

Any ideas???

I see no Ownership Transfers for WEUS in the FCC Database.John.

Another Catholic presence?

Re: Just what we need

As if Orlando does not have enough of those pay for play radio & TV stations. Now there going to kill one with a decent signal (at least during the day). I guess the handwriting was on the wall when WOCL became classic hits.

We already have 660 slanting towards Right Wing with the conservative christian talk. Add this in with 950, 1140, 1240, 1310, 1520, "1600now1680" with the same general purpose or religious point of view.... With 810's projected move, now every 100kHz cycle here seems to have a religious or spanish station now, minus the 500kHz and 1400kHz ranges. With programmers lately, it's like AM just doesn't serve any purpose anymore beyond bartering and paid time, or unless it's en espanol. Either that or WDBO just continues to eat everyone else's lunch.

Not allowed to give new owner name.

But it will be Christian preaching & teaching programs.

After doing some Google'ing and using keywords "manager WEUS" this came up as the second hit!

LinkedIn: Doc BurkhartStation Manager at WEUS 810AM Orlando, FL (Communicom Corporation); Founder-Creator at The Wiki Bible Project; Founder at The 100 Goals Company ...

So boys and girls it looks like it's the people who ran an infomercial on their WLNO 50KW/5KW 1060am station when Katrina was making landfall in New Orleans! I wonder what "great" hurricane coverage they are going to provide us with.

Doc Burkhart was once the manager of the Mighty 1530 WYMM not that long ago, starting about 2004 methinks. Was working for Word Ministries out of Kentucky. He seemed like a really nice guy. Doc and Word Ministries brought a station that was limping along at maybe 100 of 50,000 watts and had the place cranking out it's full 50kw output power after some substantial monetary investment. Freefall ministries, who previously ran it under previous ownership - that consortium really ran 1530's physical plant into the ground mantenance wise. It takes a lot of coin to keep those babies running and doesn't stop at the electric bill. Before Word Ministries, It was co-owned with another decrepit run down eng plant station 1110 (1100?) In Norfolk, VA, a 50kw daytimer.

If this is true, (WEUS being sold and turned religious), this could be the right thing at the right time, depending upon how they program the thing. I'm old enough to remember (and probably many of you too), if you turned on a religious station, what you heard was speaking and preaching, maybe recordings of church services and periods of music. The ad agency guys used to tell us how loyal the listeners were and how other preachers were falling all over each other to get the 9 A. M. to Noon time slot because the husband was gone, the kids were at school and the wife was at home with the checkbook and a cup of coffee. Today however, it seems the world of religious radio has gone to hell just like regular formats. For example, in Tampa, if you wanted to listen to some of the more famous preachers, you had to endure the "latest breakthrough infomercial involving the newly discovered health benefits of the extracts from the right leg of the lamoomba grasshopper discovered in Kenya". Somehow I cannot imagine the serious religious radio listener wanting to hear this phoney crap. I couldn't believe it when I turned on my radio while driving in TPA. The night before I was listening to WBT in Charlotte and left it set there. The next morning, booming in loud and clear was the local station and their infomercials before and after Charles Stanley.

man. if weus flips it will suck. guess all the oldies fans will either have to listne to sunny or hope 1560 can come in a lot from brevard. i really hope they do not flip 810 to christian. i believe there is enough of that in orlando? jst my thoughts.

AM music radio has been a lost cause for years. The ONLY way to make money with an AM is barter, religious, or news/talk/sports, and even then only if you're name is WDBO. They're the only operators prepared to invest in quality programming on the AM side. Witness the mess that is 540.

If 1080 had a decent signal there might be some bucks in sports, but -- as Jim Rome would say -- if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.

Everyone is an expert......Well, having made lots of money with AM, Talk and Religous are the way to go, sports is a lost cause.

everyone, yourself included? in some markets, sports IS the way to go...i think its safe to say that sports stations in FL, in general, much like their teams, have all been lackluster...am i wrong?

WDAE 620 PULLS RESPECTABLE NUMBERS IN TAMPA BECAUSE
1) THEY HAVE A DECENT SIGNAL
2) THEY DO NOT HAVE BUFFONERY (EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT I MEAN) THEY
TALK ABOUT RELEVANT SPORTS TOPICS WITHOUT BEING STUPID!!! SHOT
DOCTOR, JERRY O'NEIL 5 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR YOU CANNOT RECIEVE 10 MILES FROM THEIR STICK AFTER DARK.

AM radio is not an agency buy, so the ratings don't matter much with local direct advertisers. Talk brings in the most money on AM

I agree, that said,be LOCAL as often as possible.

hell. sports is prob on the worst stick in the market. hell. i can't even get 1080 at night here and this is a good radio. durring the day there signal is a rimshot at best. i know they are out of kissimi or there about but still... anyway, weus has gone to radio hell now. no pun intended. who will listen to weus? i have no idea. prob vary few people.

Orlando never had good sports radio. 740 had a great signal and awful content. It's tough with only one major-league franchise in town, and the play-by-play of that team being on a non-sports station.

Had 1080's programming been on 740's signal you might have had a shot.

620 in Tampa also has Duemig, who is good enough to host national shows, and can get off of sports onto community related topics when it's needed.
