Station swap in Nekoosa/Wausau

Two central Wisconsin radio stations will swap frequencies next week, giving a Nekoosa country music station reach into the Wausau area.

WYTE-FM (96.7) and WLJY-FM (106.5) will switch frequencies on Tuesday, this from the owner NRG Media in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The stations will retain their formats.

WYTE-FM will be known as Country Favorites 106.5, and WLJY will become LITE 96.7.

The PD of WYTE has been wanting to move the format to a 100kw stick to better compete with WDEZ for a long time. I first thought that was their reason for buying 107.9

Tell that PD he's a stupid moron for doing this! I like WLJY 106.5 and can't get ANY 96.7 in on the radio here in Menomonee Falls, WI. Boy, if I was in charge, the whole world of radio would change back to the way it was in a hurry! Who cares about WDEZ! That's in Wausau, this is in Marshfield. Two different markets!

What? Whaat? Whaaat?

WYTE or WLJY a Nekoosa station? WYTE COL = Whiting; WLJY COL = Marshfield. That's like saying WTMJ is an Oostburg station. Just because you can dial it in there… anyway…

As for Marshfield and Wausau being in separate markets, Arbitron and all of Central Wisconsin would beg to differ. (See "Wausau-Stevens Point" under "Ratings" at http://www.radioandrecords.com)

Not a bad move overall. WYTE's PD is certainly not a moron, Menominee Falls is well outside either station's protected contours, and I'm pretty positive a lot of people care about WDEZ (more than, say, Menominee Falls) in Central Wisconsin.

And, if I've failed to sense any sarcasm intended above, my apologies.
