STATION VEHICLES

JUST A SMALL OBSERVATION WHILE AT FLUBBS 2 WEEKS AGO, TO SHOW Z MY SHAMROCK. WHAT A NICE Z97 VEHICLE THEY HAVE!! NOT!! ON MY MORNING COMMUTE, I CAN'T HELP BUT NOTICE THAT 4 OF THE 5 PAMAL VEHICLES ARE NICER, NEWER, NICER, AND NEWER THAN THE RED-HEADED STEP-CHILD STATION, Z97. IS IT ON PURPOSE TO MAKE IT LOOK WORSE? WHAT DOES THE OWNER OF THOSE STATIONS DO FOR A LIVING, OTHER THAN OWNING RADIO STATIONS? DOESN'T HE OWN SOME CAR DEALERSHIPS? MAYBE THE GM AND OM, ARE SO OBSESSED WITH THE DEMISE OF THE ONCE MIGHTY Z97, THAT THEY INCLUDED MAKING THEM DRIVE AROUND IN THE LOSING VEHICLE FROM THE 1999 DEMOLITION DERBY AT THE FAIR, AROUND TO STATION EVENTS. GEE, IF ONLY THE PROFF COULD PROGRAM WJJR BETTER, HE WOULDN'T HAVE TO INTENTIONALLY DESTROY Z97 TO MAKE WJJR LOOK BETTER. WHAT A SHAME!! OH WELL, IT'S BACK TO XM FOR ME, AS I HIT THE POTHOLES ON DOOR DRIVE. HOW DOES MY PIZZA DELIVERY GUY MAKE IT THROUGH ALL THE POTHOLES, TO MY MONTHLY GATHERING, JUST TO GET ME A SLICE OF THE PIZZA PIE? I TOLD YOU, IT'S SALADS FOR ME FROM NOW ON!

Boy Poon, you sure have some beef with Z-97. Why so angry all the time? Why are you yelling at everyone? Perhaps a little decaf before you come to work. Every one is talking about how upset you are now.

What difference does it make if the Z97 vehicle is a little below your standards? Isn't it more important for the product on the FM dial be the best possible? You seem so upset about the Z van and forget the Cat van is just as old? What do you expect, new vehicle every year just because the owner owns a couple of dealerships? Wasn't Z AT FLUBBS? Finally Z is doing some things right, and all you can do is complain. Some people are never happy, no matter what you do for them or what you give them.

By the way, where can you possibly be commuting from if you are driving down Dorr Drive? On your way to the farm? Phantom has learned much about you in the past few posts. Perhaps we should have discussion over the next slice of pizza regarding your loyalty and your role as a team player. Yes, you can have salad.

So many people here are down on Z! Why? Don't you all want the "Mighty Z" to return to its once glorious position. Oh wait, its there now! At #1! Don't worry Poon. It will remain there and you'll find something else to complain about.

Next time, park the van straight!

The future is here!

Woah, easy on the caps there buddy!!

I'd love to know who came up with the CAPS is akin to SHOUTING rule? Some control-freak from Microsoft, maybe? ???

The rule is INCREDIBLY STUPID!

Most of us use CAPITAL LETTERS to make a point.

It's funny...nobody was ever bothered by the practice when there were manual or electric typewriters? In many of those situations...ALL CAPS WERE USED! But now that there are keyboards---CAPITALIZATIONS ARE A NO-NO!

Sorry, but please don't let the fact that it was typed in all CAPS, take away from the original intent of the post. Fact is, Z97 IS mistreated, the facts speak for themselves. No staff, no revenue, no vehicle! So Phantom, next time we can talk face to face, let's do it, perhaps if I can chat with you alone over a piping hot slice, I can talk some sense into you, and tell you STAY WHERE YOU ARE!!

I'm going to add my two cents worth on the subject of writing in CAPS.

Methinks a lot of folks in this business were taught to write scripts and copy in caps for ease of reading.

(Another aspect of copy/script writing was to double space so corrections and re-writes would be easier to pencil in.)

Let me thank "argytunes" for bringing this subject up!

While I suppose I can understand in this internet-age that writing in caps is akin to shoutin' out loud, it does not always mean that in broadcasting, as "kms575" has pointed out.

(Notice how I didn't even mention that it's easier for my aging eyes to see BIG letters.)

Poon, seems to me that there is a vehicle and that it seems to work fine. The graphics are clear and so is the message. The Z is on its way back, you'll see. You and all the haters, rejects and old hacks that can't stand the fact that Z is number one and will remain so for a long time. The seeds are being planted for a top CHR, like no one's ever seen in the Upper Valley! Maybe then, Poon, while your wiping the pizza grease off your little chin you'll take notice and become a member of the team.

As far as the "no staff" comment, how much staff is actually necessary? Lean and mean seems to work fine. Revenue? Build it and they will come. Thats what's going on right now.

Time to join the team. Join the team of winnners!

Phantom has much to learn about his new company.

I think what Poon is trying to articulate is that the Z vehicle gives the picture of the way the station is treated overall. If the vehicle is still on Dorr Drive, does that mean the station is still in a building that should be condemed? They were bought by Pamal over a year ago. Poon will probably agree that, if JJR were on Dorr Drive, they would have moved heaven and earth to get them to a building with AC and heat. The "phantom" at the Opera House is Z97.

There's also something else to be said about a station vehicle that looks worn around the edges. First impressions. Radio is driven by imaging. If the image you wish to represent is that you can afford only a vehicle that the town panhandler could (an exaggeration I imagine, but to illustrate a point) then many will assume that the station is not worth listening to because they aren't willing to invest enough to look good for the public. Particularly if the station is a powerful one. Low-wattage sticks could probably get away with a used-looking vehicle.

That being said, we are in a state of stations not seeing as much revenue as they would like these days. I'm pretty sure management is probably trying to squeeze the most out of their assets so they can stay out of the red. Now, I know it WAS easy for a station to trade out a vehicle for advertising, but that may not be the case now due to the aforementioned business climate.

I'd recommend having patience about the vehicle, so long as the vehicle runs in decent shape and gets you from point A to point B. Eventually it will have to be replaced. The sad times come when they replace it with a used vehicle. ;D :'(

I thought this thread would be about whether we know anybody who's done it in a station vehicle.

For the record, I know two.

Kinda turns the topic on its head a bit though doesn't it? :p

All I can remember about most of the broadcast vehicles I had to use for remotes was that they were CRAMMED with wires, spare amps, and extension speakers! So unless the jock or chief engineer...and a (err) agreeable listener at the remote wanted to do it on top of the hood of the truck---both agreeable partners were definitelyout of luck! :p

The old WNHI I-93 "Yellow Submarine" must have been haunted. That old klunker would break down EVERY TIME you drove it. The JYY Hummer was a attention-grabber but it drove like it was designed and built by the government.

Has anyone done it in the studio while on air? I'm very proud to say yes, in my younger days.
I knew a female jock who had quite a few "sessions" in a station vehicle...not with me. :(

Yeah, my stint doing overnights earlier in my career was pretty good :p. Amazing what you can get away with when no one else is around.....

Speaking of station vehicles, the new 94.5 the dive looks like they actually have people on it. Wow how original I think ive seen that before. maybe there trying to be like a real rock station like oh i don't know The Fox. The only real station in Rutland. Now a days when someone gets screwed over they should say they got CATAMOUNTED. LIKE Z. Hey poon, you delivering tonight??? lol

I did sorta. I took the JYY Van home with me one night when my car was in the shop. Got in the next day and a NO OIL light came on after
I'd drive about 2 miles. I pulled over immediately and shut her down, got out and looked under the hood and saw a puddle and behind it was a trail of black spots. When my wife arrived after I'd called her to get me she informed me that the trail led all the way from our driveway.

The engine of course was blown from lack of oil but we never could figure out why all the oil leaked out after starting the van up. ???

A 10 y/o Dodge Caravan with a busted motor is worth nothing, a total.:(

Hey "bill",

That's pretty funny! Have you heard the one about the morning show that runs PSAs because they can't sell any commercials? Here's the punch line: Free Beer and Hot Wings. At least Z has inventory to run during their morning show. In fact, so does every other Pamal morning show. Maybe you should stop worrying about the van of your competition and worry about selling a spot or two. Feeling pressure under the weight of big Pamal? Go wash YOUR van, get on the road and, I don't know, do your job!

The bitterness of such little things. What matters is the sound. Many of you on this board have a lot of catching up to do. Get in the top 5 and THEN we can talk about what year the van was made or what stickers are on it.

Listen and learn as the Mighty Z returns!
