Station Websites

Just a thought...who has the best station websites in town?

Personal favorites: WSB, Q100, Dave-fm.

Can't Stand: 97.1 the river, 99x.com, V103/Dave FM's E magazines.

Bitch away.

Rock 100.5 is not bad. The TRG page is cluttered but has solid content offerings.

99x.com sux

Man, do you EVER have anything positive to contribute?

Hey, he said 9-6-1 is not bad. That's slightly positive ;D

Personally I think they are all terrible. They tend to look very cluttered with a bunch of flash content and not a lot of design. Looks like a remote with banners and stickers everywhere or maybe a car ad.

They seem to be more self serving than customer focused.

I would prefer a slimmed down look. Simple and clean - lose the flash add some style.

The live web stream is also horrible. Some separate window that streams ads both in audio and visually.

i very rarely go to one.but i do like the zones site.
dont mind inside he just wants to remind everyone that its killing him that 99x is gone and he has nothing else to listen to anymore and he lost his autograghed pic of old man fram

glock ur wrong. queen frams pic is safe on the alter of the shrine i built. rite next to trg pic that i stuck to my dart board.

Both Cox and Clear Channel use the same template for all of their web sites. Cox's sites are very bland looking (all 80+ sites have the same look, only different colors), but they integrate Amazon.com shopping and movie listings among other things, so they are not lacking in functionality. Cox was conducting a website survey a couple of months ago, so it looks like a redesign is in the works. Both Cox and Clear Channel have dedicated in-house teams behind their sites.

Most other companies outsource their website work. Mediaspan does the Citadel and Radio One sites.

The average lifespan of a website design is four years. It is past time for Cox to redo theirs.

As for the streams, Cox and Cumulus (along with WCNN and WDUN Gainesville) use StreamAudio. Their player has been upgraded to allow for video pre-roll ads as well as video ad insertions during commercial breaks). There is information at http://www.streamaudio.com. The streams are of incredibly poor quality. Cox's are 20kbps mono left channel only (yeah---the right channel audio is missing), while Cumulus' are about 32kbps Stereo. Clear Channel's streams are a little better in the quality department. CD-quality streams can be done at only 128kbps (with most broadband internet connections, that should not be a problem), but good quality can be done at only 64kbps in Windows Media format.

CC sites have been updated 3 times in the last 4 years. As to Stream Audio, they are pretty bad. I don't know of anyone else of significance who still uses them

I like the new Bull and Project sites, very clean looking and user friendly. My least favorite have to be the Cox sites though. Very cluttered and hard to find anything without staring at your screen for 15 hours. I guess it helps them with time spent on their sites.

This is off-topic, but I just googled for Clear channel's phone number and found this gem:

"To our Valued Advertisers,

Yesterday we received notice from Arbitron stating that we shared preliminary ratings information, something that is against Arbitron policies.

To quote Barney Fife, 1960's TV Deputy, "Nip it, Nip it in the Bud."

Clear Channel Atlanta and 94.9 The Bull would like to apologize for the wrongful use of Arbitron Trends from January and February. Many clients have asked for trend information as an indication of the degree of impact that 94.9 The Bull has had on the radio market, specifically as it relates to the Country Stations. In our excitement to show the advertising community the early success of 94.9 The Bull, we decided to send the preliminary information to the clients requesting it. Arbitron does not allow stations to share this information. We promise to never do this again. We are sorry.

Another great American once said, "There is nothing to fear but fear itself."

If you ever have any questions about any of our Clear Channel Atlanta stations, please feel free to contact me directly. My contact information is listed below.

Thank you for your support.

All I want to know is what compelled this genius to quote Barney Fife and FDR in this context, not to mention give the quotes their own paragraphs?

As a former professional web designer I could NOT agree more! Clear Channel's sites are the worst, but none of them are very good. The two Christian station sites, J93 and the Fish, aren't awful, although J93's has gotten increasingly cluttered with ads over the years.

Really, radio AND tv station sites are primarily nothing more than electronic billboards screaming "Tune us in! Tune us in!!!!!!"
