Stations Banning The Script's "Breakeven"?

I can't imagine the lyric "I just prayed to a god that I don't believe in" isn't flying that well in the Bible Belt.

All the CUMULUS top40 stations have censored the song. They have replaced that line with another one from the song. As if the singer swears or something! I don't know if the AC and Hot AC Cumulus stations have done it too. I guess yes.

It's so sad that in such a developed country like the US only 20% of the people say they are atheists, agnostics or non-religious. It kinda feels like you live in the middle ages when it comes to religion in America.

Our local I-94 edits the song and replaces it with no wise words gonna stop the bleeding,, I thought it was just a cumulous thing. They also play AKON and David Guetta's SEXY CHICK instead of Bitch and they eidt out G spot in bedrock, Our more HOTTER CHR RADIO NOW 100.9 doesnt edit any of those, even the Adult top 40 in Bloomington- WBWB doesnt edit the script.

Being in the buckle of the bible belt, it's never been censored on any station I've heard. Not even the AC station censors it either. However, Y101, for whatever reason, censors the word "hell" on "Airplanes" on the line "And back when I was rappin' for the hell of it..."

Bitch, ass etc... can be considered bad words. They can censor them if they want. But there's no reason to censor a great song like Breakeven. There are many songs with words like god, pray etc. Do non religious people call the stations that play those songs to complain? No!

I think the Cumulus censorship started from WZYP in Alabama, then they did it everywhere. Even KRBE, WWWQ and KLIF do it! :(

I like Breakeven I can understand why people would be upset I guess but honestly it's not a big deal it's just a song and it's a damn good song at that.

The title of this thread is misleading as I've seen no indication of any CHR banning this song. I do remember a couple of years ago that for some odd reason Cumulus-owned stations had a policy of banning "Shake It", a huge hit for Metro Station.
With regards to The Script, CHR radio has done a good job of embracing their material - let's not forget that Kris Allen's "Live Like We're Dying" is also a Script song.
"Break Even" has already peaked on the charts and I think it's okay for stations to edit out some material which they deem as offensive for a large portion of their audience.

Interestingly, my question sort of out populared the original meaning & title of this entire thread, yet my subtle intent to encourage more conversation on my question remained unsuccessful. :D

This edit (not a ban) really surprises me. I first got to know this song several months ago from listening to KUDD/Salt Lake City. They played it early and often. They did not edit out this lyric yet Salt Lake is one of the most religious metro areas in North America.

Radio Now in Indy plays Cee Low Green and I cant stand that horrible song.. of course the f bomb is edited,, that isnt why i hate the song,, his voice is annoying,, Kinda reminds me of Gnarls barkley, except gnarls barkley was cool.

I run a school-owned Adult CHR and other than "radio edits" we don't edit anything. Even play the "going down" version of Saving Abel. I feel if we have to edit it, I won't play it (If U Seek Amy).

Well since the Cee-Lo Green talk has already been established here, I might as well ask:
Which do you like better? The "F***" completely taken out just leaving "you", or "forget you"? I prefer the forget you version on the radio.

It would've been great if

"beggin" - Madcon
"grind" - Ashter Roth
and
"forget you" - Cee-Lo

all came out at the "same time"... at least from a dj point of view. I guess they could all still be played back to back, every now and then.

Actually, the "Forget You" version on the radio is quite banal, but I guess to each his own.
