Stations for sale

Anything in NW FL is probably for sale. Trust me, flush your
money down the toilet. It's easier in the long run. That area
has more stations than NYC or LA and at $6 a spot, your wastin'
your time.

Thanks for the advice, are you aware of anything in NW FL? That's the area that seems to have the most promise. Do you agree?

Look at rronline for the ratings of Panama City,
Ft. Walton Beach and Pensacola to see the corporations
strongholds. Marianna, Appalachicola, Crestview may
hold some single ownership potential. WAAZ in Crestview.
Jimmy Whitaker - nice man, may be ready to retire (I
hope he is alive and well, but honestly not sure.)
There are a few fringes in Lower AL to consider.
Still rimshot signals won't get you anything but
headaches. Like me, you'll have to see it to believe it
---take out the tourist and you have very little
to work with. Back when stations (FM) were $450,000 to
$800,000 for big sticks you could survive. $1.5M +
is asking for serious trouble. Get me an e-mail address
and I'll bore you some more. BH, help him out, sir.
For advice you can trust - WSBZ's Mark Carter. He
ain't sellin though.

I miss the days of taking a $1,000 a day out of savings
to keep the transmitter on...put your money in beachfront
property. It'll disappear a lot slower and go up in value.

I meant to say North East Florida, that seems to be growing. Anyone know of anything in that area? Anything in lower georgia worthwhile? Not sure if there is a place anymore for owner/operators......

Email me at [email protected]. I have leads on two Florida stations.

This is a really old thread.

However, there is now an AM for sale in Tallahassee. I received an email directly from the owner
regarding this. It's a 10kw daytimer with both pre-and post-sunset lower powers.

PM me if you are a serious buyer and want more info. I'm not a broker nor do I receive anything for the lead.
But I don't mind helping this gentleman out if I can.

I noticed the other day on www.radiotvdeals.com that WJAQ(FM)/WTOT-AM/FM in Marianna/Graceville was for sale. Operating under the Dothan-PC Class C "umbrella," but it's a nice little cluster. Marianna is its own town--that is, not a bedroom community or reliant on tourism. As long as Florida has prisons, they'll have an economy!

If you were to buy that cluster (TOT/JAQ) in Marianna, be prepared to immediately before doing ANYTHING about staff or programming or sales, throw EVERY piece of equipment AND tower into and BIG dumpster and bring in some used equipment that was designed and sold after 1975. The place is a mess.....the AM (980) has not been on the air for YEARS....contrary to statements made in the the annual STA applications for silence. Hear me now and believe me later as they used to say on SNL.

Run RNR ;D the wooten words are gold. he saved my a$$ years ago with one phone call for advice. think it took three minutes to convince me to NOT return a phone call!

CCENG - anything remotely cool cooking on the coast?

Oh, I have no interest in them, myself--I just happened to stumble onto the "for sale" ad and this particular thread within a day or so, and thought I'd add to the conversation.

As it turns out, though, the fellow who had been the GM there for most of the past decade until his death last year, Ed Cearley, was a friend of mine. Great guy and an outstanding broadcaster. Ex-KILT/Houston and a lengthy/successful management history in Texas before landing in the Panhandle to run JAQ/TOT for another old friend.

Although I don't doubt that Charlie is correct about the technical plant, I think that the station(s) have a pretty strong position within the community. On the flip side, Marianna/Jackson County is a very small market and they share it with another local operator--and Graceville adds nothing to the revenue pot. The PC/Dothan signals don't help.

In an ideal world, WJAQ/WTOT would get snapped up by an engineer who could rebuild it himself without spending a fortune... knew the area & the culture... and was smart enough to continue Ed Cearley's community-building style of management. Maybe in partnership with an old programmer not afraid to hit the street...

But once you get spoiled by state-of-the-art gear from corporate giants... and once you've seen the bright lights of Music City... it's hard to lure 'em back to small-town radio and DIY projects...

RNR, I am not talking the latest technology.....as you put it so eloquently (sp?) "spoiled by state-of-the-art gear from corporate giants"....I am just talking about basic reliable broadcast equipment....even I know that the stuff we have a CC in PC is too fancy for Marianna.....go by there sometime, you will know what I mean....and you are right on about Ed.....he was the ONLY thing those stations had going for them.

CCENG in Dayton...going to bed now....too much beer and BS with other ham operators tonight.....
