Stations from the '70s, now defunct

I'm writing a novel that begins in 1977 in which there is a character who has a late-night Christian talk show, where he just basically talks about the end of the world all night. I see this as being in Waco. I thought I could just identify some defunct radio station and say his show was on that station, but I'm having a difficult time doing that. KTON and KUOL might have worked, but they weren't around in 1977. I could also just make up a station, but would then have to come up with call letters, not too much of a problem--or is it? Another idea, is he has his own amateur radio station; again, I'd have to come up with convincing call letters that weren't already taken. Whenever I create something fictional, I like to do some research to make it as realistic as possible; in this case, something that would withstand the scrutiny of knowledgeable radio people like yourselves. I solicit forums all the time for historical information, and people usually have a good time putting in their 2 cents, and so I appeal to you all, now. Any ideas? Many thanks in advance!
