There are 4- and 5 call letter sets in Mexico beginning with X.

And a few 3- and 6- letter sets, at least on the TV side (I don't think those exist in radio).

XEC in Mexicali is on 1050, and XESURF in Tijuana is on 540.

The SCT is the entity that assignes calls and licences in Mexico.

AM.

All calls start with XE and 1 to 4 more letters.

FM

Licensed before about 1975, XE- and 1 to 3 letters.
Licensed post'75, they start with XH- and 1 to 4 other letters.

Since "X" in Mexico can be pronounces like an "X" in English or like a soft "H" or like the "Sh" sound (from Náhuatl), many of the calls can be pronounced.

If you were getting McAllen then the channel 7 station was likely XHAB in Matamoros.

Thanks again for all the info, yeah I think it was XHAB, I was recieving KGBT over WOAI-4 and KRGV-5 over KENS-5 that night, the radio was just crazy all the way around. I should of logged more calls that night.

XEG in Monterey is at 1050. XEEP Mexico City is at 1060. I rememeber XEROX and
XERF blasting across the border. Clear channel has a couple of mexican licenses in San Diego. Thing I dig is the signature tunes. Most of the mexican stations I've heard had exclusive jingle tunes, so you knew which one you were getting.

Yes it was XHAB 7. When ever I am down in Corpus visiting Family I can normally pick that station up with a regular pair of rabitt ears.<P ID="signature">______________
