Stations off the air or at low power?

The Golden Triangle station you may be thinking of ... WCBI 550 Columbus. Frank Imes, son of the owner, told me they wanted to concentrate on other things (they owned WCBI TV and several other TV stations, plus newspapers) and no one was willing to pay the price for the station, so they pulled the plug. I would have thought some daytimer or station at the other end of the dial would have wanted the superior AM facility, but apparently not.

It was either that or WROB West Point. It's on the FCC silent list.
WCBI 550 went off in 1988, license returned and deleted. Last time I was down there, either one or all of the Cumulus AM's were either off the air or hampered to the degree as to be unlistenable, 1400, 1230 and 980.

Hampered would be the appropriate word, I suppose. I just passed through there today and 980 sounded terrible. It, 1230 and 1400 seemed to be carrying the same sports feed of Colin Cowherd.

Thought not silent "for real" I'll add an oddity from this Saturday evening. 1290 in Batesville and 1450 Clarksdale were nowhere to be found in Panola County, around 5-6pm? I had to make do with 1520 since my deaf radio only got it, 640 from Memphis and MPB clearly.
