Stations On Different Frequencies: Nine Vs. LaKalle

It was said that stations on different frequencies usually do poorly because people don't want to flip stations to hear the station clearly. So, how come La Kalle is getting ratings about 5 times higher than Nine while serving about the same amount of people. Nine and Kalle have signal problems, and also Kalle is beating several full power FM's as well. Personally, I don't have a problem with the Nine FM format, but it's pretty obvious it's not doing well. If Energy and BCR's Kiss could get consistently over a 1 share without 99.9, you would think the ratings would go up with 99.9 in the picture and not down.

Hispanics have 4 choices on FM in Spanish. Non-Hispanics have dozens.

Coupled with that, WVIX's signal penetrates pretty far into Chicago. It doesn't pardon Nine for their poor performance, but with only a few FMs targetting Hispanic listeners, it helps.

I think the "dual language" programming on La Kalle is a big plus. Most (but not all) of the jock chatter is in Spanish, but the music mix and even commercials include English. I find myself listening to La Kalle far more than I ever listened to Viva.

So does WRZA, maybe even better. In my car, I can pick up both in the densest parts of the North Side

LA Kalle is really where it is at for youth who come from Spanish Speaking backgrounds.

It's a SPanglish station so it even draws in the white friends too.

I like La Kalle a lot, it draws in young Latinos but is inviting to those who speak English. I think it's radio well done personally.
