Stations on the Move...Lubbock

Among last week's FCC filings is KSTQ-FM 97.3 Plainview/Lubbock seeking to downgrade to a class C2, but move to a tower on the south side of Lubbock. Since it will no longer cover Plainview with a city grade signal, it proposes to change city of license to New Deal TX.

You can see the current coverage and the proposed coverage for the application:

With the recent changes to the Minor Change rules, expect this to be approved.

Right. It'll probably breeze right through, another in a long list of move-ins. This will be number ten. Added to stations licensed to Lubbock itself, that brings the total to 16 commercial FM's targeting a metropolitan area with fewer than 250,000 persons.

Well, that's a good question and it's the reason why Clear channel had to sell all the former Gulfstars as one whole unit, since they could not find a buyer for different parts.

But there's always people interested in buying stations everywhere. Mix/KLLL/KONE/KBTE have been sold over and over again, and the current owners (Wilkes) were interested. So what's 2 more stations. The trick will be for Walker to make those stations attractive, and that in itself is an issue.

Good question indeed!
