Amazing that virtually all posters here seem to live in an oblivious cocoon, with only a minuscule number mentioning KFI or KNX or KPCC. No wonder so much of our nation and her people are absolutely clueless, since knowing what is going on in the world around us seems to be an unnecessary element of their lives. Just flip on the music and flip off the brain. It takes an informed electorate to keep our democracy going. I doubt that very many of these posters get up early in the morning to read a newspaper. And if they think they are getting news from most television sources, they are sadly confused. (I love music, listen to everything from KRTH to Amp to KROQ, as well as online from sources such as lite fm and You Tube, and I have a great CD collection, but knowledge comes well before escape.)
Where I live, the only information on the radio comes from stations with a clearly conservative bent. I prefer music on the radio and my news from Chris, Keith, Rachel, Jon, and Stephen. We do have an all news TV channel that is usually objective.
I agree, and it's incredibly narrowminded of observer to claim that just because people don't listen to news radio, they're uninformed. Radio is not the only source of information out there, nor is it the only media. The only time I ever listen to KNX is to get traffic reports once in a blue moon, but I actually feel that I am overinformed and bombarded by the amount of news out there that is updated on a constant basis. I listen to music radio exclusively, but hours before I even turn on the radio each day, I get AP bulletins on my iPhone, e-mail news bulletins from the L.A. & New York Times, and I also check My Yahoo and Google News to catch up on what's happening in the world. Compound that with visits to those websites throughout the day and news articles posted on Facebook and Twitter by friends, as well as news shows I might occasionally watch on TV, and I think I have a pretty good grasp of what's going on news-wise even if I've only listened to music radio.
While many would like to stick their heads in the sand and claim that radio is still as much of a huge and dominant force in people's lives as it was years/decades ago, the sad truth is that thanks to the expansion of technology, radio doesn't have the same draw and importance as it used to. Researchers at UCSD came out with a study last week that the average American consumes 34GB of information every 12 hours, with half of that coming from TV, a quarter from the Internet, and that last 25% is split up between radio, newspapers & magazines, phones and more.
Additionally, as MsMusicRadio pointed out, much of what some may consider "news" on the radio is heavily politically slanted and has been called into question factually on a consistent basis. While observer claims that KFI wasn't mentioned as a source of information by anyone here, I would hardly call opinion/talk shows to be a credible news source. Even Fox News made some claims back in October that shows like "Fox & Friends," "Hannity," "Glenn Beck" and "The O'Reilly Factor" are "opinion programming" and prone to editorializing by the hosts, rather than actual news.
