Stations Still Broadcasting In AM Stereo

In a similar format as my list of standards/EL stations thread, I'd like to now ask to see if I can get help compiling a list of the undoubtedly very few AM stations that still broadcast in stereo.

I can confirm that KVON 1440, COL Napa, CA, the only station in the entire state of California that I know of which allegedly still transmits in C-QUAM stereo, is indeed still doing so as of about a week ago (I tuned it in on my old truck's radio, which is AM Stereo capable, and I heard it in stereo).

Are there any others anywhere?

All the AMs that have AM HD in use can be stereo. But the AM HD user list is diminishing.

Right.

I should have specified that I meant analog stereo, which means C-QUAM, basically.

In the meantime, I did remember another such station that transmits using C-QUAM: WION 1430 Ionia MI. They, in fact play up on the fact and use it as part of their identity, going as far as using their over the air signal to feed their stream (via a Carver TX-11a or b).

Interesting enough, KVCU in Boulder is likely to start AM HD broadcasting this summer when it gets its new 5 kw transmitter. The old one was fried by lightning and it's currently running off its 1 kw aux. This will make six stations in the Denver area with AM HD: four from Crawford and one from Pillar's KPOF in addition to KVCU.

KYET ( 1170 ) Golden Valley, Arizona
The last time I heard them, announced 'AM Stereo' in their top of the hour ID

AM 1370 KFRO Longview, Texas

Returned to broadcasting in stereo when Scott Rice purchased it and restored the facility. It hasn't sounded better than it does now in many years. If Mr. Curtis were still alive, he'd be quite proud of how the station sounds in its 90th year of operation.

Hallelujah 940 WYLD New Orleans broadcasts its urban gospel format in stereo since they installed their new Nautel transmitter which has stereo built in.

The local pirate station Stereo 550 runs liners saying that they transmit legacy Motorola C-QUAM stereo, "Louisiana and Mississippi's superstation", "Bottom of the dial, top of the charts". Good mix of 80's music, yacht rock, and instrumentals that can be heard around the Picayune to Slidell area.

1310 WOKR in Canandagua NY (near Rochester) is in C-QUAM stereo, not much separation though. They made no mention of it on-air for the hour or so that I listened.

WION 1430 Ionia, Mich., pops in here in the southwest suburbs of Chicago occasionally. My Sony SRF-A100 decodes it beautifully when it's in the clear.

I miss the AM Stereo Walkman I had back in the 80's.

I thought it sounded better than FM stereo because it had a more solid sound.

WNBC was my favorite station to hear in stereo along with WLS at night which had a different stereo mode.

WNBC was best in the B setting whereas WLS was best on A.

When I visited California, it was great to hear KFRC and KFI in stereo.

I really thought AM Stereo would save top 40 music on AM but I was wrong.

I believe WIOE, Fort Wayne, Indiana does. At least online they include “Stereo 1450” along with their two translators. Great oldies station, IMHO.
