Stations Switching Formats

My Dad and I were talking about Tucson and how the stations changed over the years. As a retired police officer, he remembers adventures with Jim Slone, Frank Kalil and Dennis Behan. They all played around with their stations and formats. They typically change format quite often. KWFM changed a few times before landing with the current owner. KAIR, back in the day, changed format frequently. In April of 1961 they were top forty after switching from country, and then easy listening. Everyone does remember Top 40???? Thats a format always repeating the same top songs, over and over and over. BUT, you just can't tune away. Finally, it made you go out and buy that 45!

IMHO the DJ's at KTKT during the mid-to-late 50's were the best that Tucson ever had.

Kalil, Chris Borden, Buck Herring etc. Most of these guys, save Frank, wound up in the Bay Area at either KYA or KEWB.
