Stations that mix Classic and New Country

Name some of the best stations that I could pick up on Tunein or IHeartRadio that play a good mix of Classic and New Country...

WMYL 96.7 Merle FM in Knoxville, TN plays an unusual mix of everything from classic to new country. (www.merlefm.com). They actually got an ACM nomination for station of the year even though they are a local owner, 3rd rated country station on a smaller signal. Pretty interesting mix though.

Glad to hear of that recognition, and especially for a smaller operation. Typically, mixing of the two works only in smaller markets, on lower power stations. "Classic Country" playlists on larger metropolitan stations rarely dig any deeper than the '90s.

My station does that, Jason. It's called Big D Country.

The music includes classic country back to the early 50s all the way up to the present. Because a lot of the music is on vinyl, the process of digitizing it all is ongoing and will likely take years to complete.
So I take requests, and if I have it, I will play it.

You can search for Big D Country on TuneIn, and it is also on Live365 and Radio Terra. It has been country since July of 2003.

I grew up listening to country, even as a little boy, and just love it.

We are primarily a Hot Country Hits station at America's Country (see in my sig). But I usually mix in a couple songs an hour from the 90's and play a feature each weekday called The 90's @ Noon, where I play a full hour of 90's hits. It's a really great era in Country music with big names like Garth, Reba, George and others! I get a lot of positive feedback on it. I also occasionally do a 90's weekend. I never go further back than 1990, except the occasional Lee Greenwood or pre-90's Garth and I always play Nitty Gritty's Fishin' In The Dark!

I know some wouldn't consider the 90's classic, but now that it's mid-2013, that's more than 20 years ago! (I feel so old all the sudden!)

I invite you to listen! Noon mountain time on America's Country!

Thanks.

Please tell me you mean that's the how old their most recent songs are. No one can call it "classic" country if the oldest songs are from the 90s. That's when country started going downhill.

I'm one of those. The 90s are a decade which some of us wouldn't accept on our real classic country station, except for Alan Jackson and George Strait and that sort of thing.

Saying you play 90s music occasionally on your hot country station doesn't make me want to give your station a second look.

When I say a station with a good mix of Classic and New Country. I'm talking the 70's to today. Maybe the late 70's would be a good start up until today.

That's probably a fair assessment many would agree with. The '90s might be a transitional period with the first half of the decade more or less a carryover from country's new traditionalist movement that started in the mid-'80s. The latter half of the '90s became the foundation for the metropolitan style of country we hear today.

AMEN!

Country hasn't been "Country" for decades now. Today's so called "Country" artists are just a bunch of rock star wanna bees deck out in battered Wal-Mart cowboy hats, ripped up denims, wife beaters and tennis shoes and there's no telling what the male country artists are wearing... ::)

There are a few artists out of the 90's worth a listen, Clint Black, Allen Jackson and such, but now... Well, I guess I just don't "get" it. Even today's "Classic Country" stations are as bad as the so called "Classic Hits" stations in the pop format. Too bad there's not an "Oldies Country" station out there...Thank goodness I still have my own country music library. with it at least I can get my COUNTRY fix from the greats of the 50's through the 80's...

WCYO-FM in Richmond, Kentucky (wcyofm.com) mixes classics and newer country... along with some local artists. Very enjoyable to listen to.

KFKF in Kansas City is the only larger market station that I know of that mixes new and old. Also, WFMB in Springfield , IL is a pretty good small market station.

WKDO-FM 98.7 best radio station in Kentucky right now! 25Kw from their home in Liberty, KY. True classic country mid-70s, 80s and early 90s with a hint of the 60s biggest country hits! When I found this station and listened for 15 minutes, I was sold! If you are a true country music fan check this station out! You won't be disappointed! :)

Denver's last "mix" of old & new country was heard on 1600 AM. Can't remember the calls. They flipped to sports in late 2006. Still remember their plugs about the upcoming program changes, while assuring listeners that their country format would move to 1520. Can't even pick up 1520 now.

"Willie" radio took over 92.5 FM in '05, featuring a refreshing mix of new and classic country. Threw some pretty nasty body blows at KYGO for a time. Now, they're "The Wolf". Their format is cookie cutter country, sounding much like KYGO.

KYGO programmed an "oldies" show on Saturday mornings until a couple years back.

I love the DJ on there named Jack Ryan! Congrats to him and the station on their ACM award nominations! I believe that they got both awards! :) :) :)

God bless you and everyone of the station always!!! :) :) :)

I was in the mountains last week and spent some time listening to a Real Country affiliate. They actually describe the format as mixing old and new.

I was shocked to hear not only Toby Keith's "Boot in Your" song, but also the word. I would imagine that station gets complaints and, short of having and employee with a finger on the bleep button, which totally defeats the purpose of automation, they can't do anything about it except compalin to Real Country.
