Stations with Local New Year's Eve Celebrations

When WMC had the broadcasts from Overton Square and Beale Street for the first few years they would simulcast with their sister station at that time FM100. When WPTY and later WLMT took over the broadcasts they would simulcast with Rock 103 since they were all owned by Clear Channel at the time.

All of the Raycom owned stations in the Central Time Zone, and Media General owned WKRG in Mobile broadcasted the Moon Pie drop from Downtown Mobile, Alabama. Devon Walsh (WKRG) and Jeh Jeh Pruitt (WBRC, Birmingham) were the anchors in the booth while Meggan Gray (WLOX, Biloxi), and Sally Pitts (WSFA, Montgomery) were out in the street reporting.

Sure wished Kathy and Anderson could stay on at least through 4am ET live, so that CNN could show fireworks from Seattle; San Francisco; Las Vegas, etc.

Ironically, Devon Walsh and Jeh Jeh Pruitt used to be co-workers at WBRC when it was still a FOX O&O. On another note, I don't approve of Raycom and RSA supplanting a New Years' celebration in Mobile while deliberately ignoring the largest market and region in the state, Birmingham...

In Los Angeles, KDOC had their own New Year's Eve extravaganza called "First Night 2013" hosted by Jamie Kennedy which was also syndicated to a few more stations. From what I've read, it was a D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R, right down to the inept production values!

Don't believe me? Here's the visual evidence. Needless to say...Ryan Seacrest's, Carson Daly's, and Anderson Cooper's and Kathy Griffin's NYE jobs are safe.

Nothing in Atlanta but the local affiliates do a double box with the National feed of Times Square on one side and Atlanta's Peach Drop on the other at 11:59.

Which won the race to the bottom of its respective pole this year, Atlanta's peach or NY's ball?

It was hard to tell. The camera focused on the Peach Drop...at least show on WSB Channel 2 (ABC affiliate) was set up in a bad spot. Once the Peach reached a certain point it was blocked from view by revelers jumping up and down and holding up camera phones.

The Xfinity TV Guide listed a Hollywood New Year's Eve program on KZJO, but I saw a 30 Rock rerun instead. Mistake!

Was the Hollywood New Year's Eve show on KZJO the same one as on KDOC (which also originated from Hollywood)? If so, maybe KZJO bailed out early when they realised that it would tank.

That was the title! When I tried to tune into "First Night 2013" I saw a 30 Rock syndicated rerun instead. This was 11PM PT. Not shown at 11:30 either.

I'm sure a couple stations who "aired" that mess from KDOC may have pulled a "Turn-On" and threw in an infomercial midway.

By the way...after co-starring with Kennedy in Kickin' It Old Skool, Maria Menounos better be glad she's sticking to entertainment news while being a hot piece of eye candy at the same time (she lost Sexiest Woman of 2012 to Eva Longoria).

I know it's been a week today, but on the broadcast from Beale Street in Memphis for TN PBS stations I'm surprised WKNO didn't break into the middle of the countdown at midnight for 30 minutes begging for people to donate "To keep great programming like this on Channel 10." Never mind it won't be on again for another year. ::)
