Stations you listen to for radio's sake...

Hey kids! (And grown-ups),

I'm sure I will get lots of different stations, but I'm just curious if there is anybody who'll tune in to a radio station just to listen to it. Not neccessarily for the music or the conversation, but for the production, personalities, processing, imaging, etc.

Who in your neck of the woods does this the best? I must say, my favorite station down here in Beaufort County probably goes to the Surf (104.9). That transmitter has great processing (probably from its big-owner days), the jingles are pretty snappy, and when I hear the DJ's they actually sound decent for a two-month old station.

Honorable mention: WALI 93.7 in Walterboro. What a small-town station should sound like...minus the screw-ups usually found in a small-market FM with automation, personalities, etc. The one problem is that their processing is screwy. When somebody talks over a bed of music, you cannot hear the music...in between pauses, it comes up to full volume.

Any other good ones anybody can report?

I'm gonna go with two AM stations. WNMB 900 in NMB and WTAB 1370 in Tabor City. Call it comfort radio. Call it a guilty pleasure.

Kiss from RDU (for a Clear Channel station, I actually like the quasi-dance format); LBC 1152 and 97.3 London; WTOP Washington; WBBM Chicago.
