Stations You Miss....

What are some SC stations you miss? They can be recent stations that have changed, past that have changed, whatever. Maybe just a station that re-positioned and is no longer the same as they once were.

I haven't lived here for a really long time, so I can't go back a long way, but I do miss Oldies 106.3 in Greenville. It was kinda low budget, but it sounded pretty good. That's a format I've missed here for a really long time and even though it's been on a national upswing for quite some time, the wave still has missed us.
I also miss 106.3 Charlie FM. Not as good as Oldies, but I liked a lot of the 80s/90s stuff they played.

I also miss Y-102.5 in Charleston as oldies/classic hits. They were one of the top oldies stations in the southeast back in the early-mid 2000s, IMO. Excellent production, sound, and air talent. 95.9 IOP was good as well, and had a chance at success, but Apex wasn't very committed to it.

+1 on Charlie FM. Yes, it was basically a computer programmed station, but it was fun to listen to. They didn't even give it a chance.

If you want to stretch really far back, I miss 103X as well in Greenville.

Amen on Q107.

I'd also like to add:

WKZQ (circa late 70s early 80s) with Bill Hennecy, Greg Fowler, J. Patrick Milan, Freakin' Deacon, "Shotgun" Jeff Stone(now Human Numan), Debbie Snyder, Bob Chase, Mike Willis, Brian Phillips, et al.

WLS-AM (early to mid 70s) Larry Lujack, John Landecker, Bob Sirrott, Bill Bailey, Steve King, Bill Bailey, Jeff Davis, Turi Ryder, Tom Kent, et al.

Q105 (early 80s) Scott Shannon, Cleveland Wheeler, Jack Harris, Terrence McKeever, Bobby Rich, Mason Dixon, Jon "Rock N Roll" Anthony, Brian BC" Christopher, "Nighttrain" Lane, et al.

WUSC (late 70s-early 80s) Ron Marsh, et al.

WZLD (early 80s) Mountain Man, Baker & Finley, Pandora Reynolds, Benji Norton, Mike Willis, John Q. Rocke, Liz Kennedy, et al.

WNOK-FM (late 70s) Woody & Leo, Tracy Mitchell, et al.

WCOS-AM (mid to late 70s, 1980) Dan Vallie, Hunter Herring, Charlie Jay, Dave Douglas, Rich Hawkins, Mike O'Brian, et al.

WCOS-FM (late 70s to 1981) Ken "Music" Martin, Toby Young(Aunt Elouise Louise), Teri Oyer, Chuck Finley, Glen Garrett, et al.

Oh, almost forgot...I know I took the liberty of naming two non-SC stations, but there are some very subtle SC connections to those two. And besides, good radio is just good radio...no matter where it originates.

I'm with you Iceman, except for COOL 105.3 because I never listened.

The original WPAL-AM POWER 73

FOXIE 104.5 I still remember the burgandy and yellow bumber sticker.

The old BIG DM 101 FM when it was Columbia's ONLY Hip-Hop and R&B.

for me growing up a big part of my Myrtle Beach vacation was listening to WTGR AM. Tiger Radio and at nights when they went off WMYB AM would do late night top 40, even stopped in there one night and hung out with the DJ whose name I can not remember.

Here are some of my faves I miss... Wave 104/ Power98 late 80's early 90's
Yes 97 88 to 90 when it went into Alternative
Q 107
WJMX when it was at 106.3
Z103 in Cheraw/Chesterfield
z93 when it relaunched as Classic Rock on Labor Day weekend of 1991
WROQ/WZZG/WAQQ/WEDJ all at 95.1
WPUB when it was at 94.3... For some reason that little stick carried pretty good back then
WNOK in the mid 80's
WBCY in the 80's
Kiss 102 from Jan 1988 to Jan 24th 1994...
There is others but those are what comes to mind as of now... CC1

Oh, how can I forget 96.7 The Buzzard. Their playlist with classic rock towards the end blew WROQ out of the water, IMO.

Doing full on classic rock days and new rock nights was a last ditch effort to save the beloved 96-7 The Buzzard. When I was given the green light to do that, it was already decided that CC was going to do what they're doing now. I guess it was best they kept me in the dark as I gave it everything I had right up to the end. Really had two stations in one complete with separate imaging and voice guys. Looking back at what that station was for (a weapon to boost WSSL over ROQ), it would've been great to have started out that way instead of the mainstream rock mix with extreme attitude. Might still be on. It was making a difference - but it was too late. An attempt to switch to classic hits was also shot down at the time. I believe either would be more successful at this current time and would be a great compliment to MY's new direction. They could squeeze some older listeners out of Magic and default listeners from ROQ.

Good catch, Carroll. Z103 was awesome...especially when it came blasting onto the air for the first time. The Pee Dee was a barren wasteland radio-wise, when it debuted.
